Good luck
I decided it wasn't worth the trouble to do anything with the card. I originally bought it for the phone but KitKat has significantly diminished the value of having the external storage. I don't have any need for any external storage on the Kobo, I only put the card there since it was an empty slot

I guess a faulty card reader could cause the same problem, but when I first got my Glo I had a card that caused the battery to drain 4-5 times faster than normal and replacing it with another card fixed the problem, so in my case it was the card itself at fault.

My faulty card operated perfectly except for the increased battery drain. The battery drained whether or not there were any books on the card, and only when the device was active (there was no drain at all in sleep mode).

However if the card reader itself was faulty then an option would be to do without an external card and upgrade the internal card instead.
