I subscribe to both Asimov's and Analog via Barnes & Noble. On the plus side, they are epubs and don't have DRM. On the minus side, I can't download via my browser -- which would be most convenient and does work for most book ebooks I buy there. But, since I have a couple Android tablets, I can get them that way.

After FW stopped selling them (ie stopped existing) I went to Zinio. It's not as good as DRM-free properly organized epubs like FW had (I think I have 5 years worth archived from there) but it's pretty good.
(Though I recognize it may not be suitable for everyone) |

I get Analog this way since my public library offers it through their Zinio offerings.

Sorry, there were rumors of them starting international sales. Guess it hasn't happened yet.

So how do you read these? Another magazine I get has a text button on the page an article starts which enlarges the text and gives it to me in one column. Zooming and panning two columns gets tiresome real quick. If I go to landscape it gives me two pages and I don't see a way to change this. |

Then again, I've also been reading Analog for 35 years and I actually prefer the two-column look for the magazine, so I may not be the right person to figure out how to get rid of it. |

Thanks for the replies. There's a rumor about a Nexus 8.9 tablet - this is a good excuse to get one if it's true!

Well, in the end, nothing worked, there was some stomping, a little bit of crying, then I had a complete nervous breakdown, and finally I ordered a Kobo Aura HD (on Amazon, out of sheer spite). It was a pretty expensive solution, but admittedly, I was already thinking to make the jump to newer hardware. And hopefully, I'll just be able to get my subscription right down to my ereader that way.

The whole situation is less than satisfactory. I do manage to get Analog and Asimov's from nook via my Android phone and then onto my Kobo eventually.
I wrote to Analog last year asking why they could not sell directly to their readers. No response at all, which was very disappointing. I have been reading Analog continuously since I bought the June 1973 issue at a newstand on my way home from school (in Canada). I expected better from them. If the Nook option goes away, I will probably stop trying to get Analog any other way. It's not as if I don't have anything else to read... |

"Thank you for your email. I will pass it along to our Digital Team for review. We appreciate your readership!" I too would much rather subscribe directly with the publisher. I see no point in a middle-man getting a cut every year. And I'd love to get both ePub and Kindle formats directly, instead of having to convert one. |
