UBook is quite capable of displaying .PRC files perfectly and with cover but not if you rename a .mobi to .prc.

@Vortex - So you need to find something that will convert an EPUB to a genuine PRC- all I could see from a quick search was Zamzar.

As I see it µBook hasn't kept pace with e-book technology, if it had then it would be able to render EPUB, MOBI and AZW3 directly without need to convert to legacy formats like PRC and RTF.

You could make a post in the plug-ins ideas thread to see if anyone is interested in doing a 'real' PRC Output plug-in or updating the HTMLZ or RTF Output plug-ins to put covers and TOC in the output. Or you could do it yourself or pay someone to do it.

But I think you've exhausted all the avenues in the current version of calibre.

uBook has stopped being developed but looks like it might become open source which would be really great:

A very sad post to make.

However over the next few days I'll be deleting the forums appertaining to uBook. Over he last couple of years I've been in occasional contact with David Jean the author of what was the best Windows Mobile eBook reader, and David has now decided to finally end development of the application.

David is considering making the software open source and if that idea bears fruit he will release the source code once it has been cleaned up somewhat.

In the interim uBook can still be downloaded from the Gowerpoint web site and David has now made a free lcense for the Android version on the site.

I do wish David the best of luck with his endeavours in the future and thank him for the creation and work on uBook over the past years!

@Vortex - maybe no need to hope and wait for that

There are a number of Android on Windows emulators around - BlueStacks, YouWave, WindowsAndroid etc.

Maybe you could install one of those and try some of the Android Book reader apps. You should be able get something similar to µBook in terms of the UI, but with ability to read 'modern' ebook formats and less need to convert.

Remember that a PRC was not a single format; like a zip file it was a container for other entities. It came from the Palm pilot world and I think stood for Palm Resource Container.

So saying convert an ePub to a PRC could actually mean nothing more than enclosing the entire binary ePub file in the header required by a PRC.

Would this be acceptable by any reading program? I seriously doubt it, but that is one way of interpreting the conversion of an epub to a PRC.

Bottom line is move on to a modern reading program.

I see you use Firefox, try adding the Epub Reader add-on and read your books that way. Hitting F11 will puts you in full screen mode.

- I've been playing with Lucidor/fox today, IMO its better than Epub Reader, for one thing it annotates and exports notes as XML - and it does PDF - interesting.

I had a look at those firefox plugin readers, compared to the setup I have in ubook, I'd much rather spend the few seconds it takes to convert an epub to html.

I now have the covers and TOC working perfect in ubook. It turned out it was my fault the covers weren't displaying not ubook's, a few changes I'd made in the code a few years ago to increase the button sizes had inadvertently knocked out the cover display.
