The rugged thing is more important to me than the weight. But how much more crack-resistant will these screens be?

If they are flexible, they will be *much* more crack-resistant.

That might make a lot of sense for the next kindle (as rumoured), even if put in a reader very similar to the current one, not flexible in itself, a bit lighter, but much less money to be spent on warranty (or goodwill) replacements.

Also if the case does not need to be engineered to protect a display that is quite so fragile, it is likely to be a bit cheaper (hopefully partially compensating for a more expensive flexible screen) and lighter because of it.
