@DoctorOhh - I must have misinterpreted your previous posts where I was certain you advocated disabling synchronisation to cloud services like Dropbox, OneDrive (nee Skydrive (nee Live Folders)) when one was using calibre? And to restart it when one stopped using calibre, and to not restart calibre whilst it was still synching. In other words to not run both concurrently?

I also understood that when Iskariot encountered his problems he was running calibre and Skydrive synchronisation concurrently?

I guess I was wrong on one or both counts

BR

You understand fine, although it may have been OneDrive that locked up your files. Even if OneDrive wasn't running the file could have still been locked up by the process. Stuff happens, that is why that tool that allowed you to delete them exists.
Thanks for the reassurance, I hate not understanding tools I depend on so much.

No, you were completely right about what you assumed concerning my problem. I was indeed running Skydrive and calibre concurrently.
But as I said I won't be anymore now.

Thanks for all the help guys.

All that matters is that you're rock'n'rolling

The fact that you were able to use calibre whilst synching was by good fortune. Some people are able to run calibre against libraries on servers, others can't even tho' all components are similar.

I'm guessing that when multi-user calibre is unleashed that these cloud synching restrictions may be lifted. Multi-user is on the TODO list. But I imagine its very non-trivial, calibre already targets multiple workstation operating and file systems (at various version levels), throw server operating and file systems into the mix you have one very big (t)ask.

Maybe there could be something that gives calibre users a heads up if there's a known cloud synch service running. Like one of the info messages that has the 'don't show this again' checkbox. The cloud synch services are much more widely used today than they were five years ago.

Cheers BR

You mean like I stated again in the post previous to yours?

You weren't wrong I was just mildly confused by your your end two paragraphs and thought they were overly convoluted and confused the issue. For me a simple pause syncing while using calibre doesn't confuse me.

Consequently its the whole library that needs to be kept in synch, not just individual files within it. Products like Dropbox and Skydrive cannot cope with such scenarios, and IMO, nor should they be expected to do so.
Dropbox handles the above great. The problem is that while Dropbox is syncing these files it prevents calibre from writing the newly converted file or renaming folders due to updated metadata. Since calibre can't wait it throws an error and the new path is not written. As you stated this screws up calibre's library.

Bottom line for those I may have confused: It is best when using cloud software to pause syncing while actively working on your library.
