That has never been the case for either my Glo or Touch. This is with three different WiFi routers at home, two at work plus the one hotspot I occasionally use. But, I was using a reserved IP at home and work. When I turned this off with 3.1.1, I did the have problem this thread is about. I am not having the problem with 3.2.0.

Any hints people could share on the passwords / pass phrases associated with their WiFi setup...

Special characters used, spaces, length, stuff like that.

1. Kobo Aura HD
2. Have the issue since 3.1.1, upgraded to 3.2.0, no change, downgraded back to 3.1.1
3. Actiontec MI424WR Rev. E, firmware 20.20.8
4. WPA2, but changing to WEP or even unencrypted doesn't solve the issue.
5. Tried assigning static IP multiple times, doesn't solve the issue.
6. Currently have CoolReader installed (the reason for downgrading back to 3.1.1, CoolReader seems to have some problems on 3.2.0), but Wi-Fi bug started way before that when Aura HD was unmodified.

I believe the Fritz!box 7360 uses the Atheros AR9287 chipset.

  1. Aura 6"
  2. 3.1.1 (actually upgrading to 3.2.0 right now)
  3. Linksys E3000 firmware 1.0.04 for wifi, but dhcp is served by a linux machine running Debian Woody, isc-dhcpd-4.2.2. I also run ipv6, though I haven't checked to see if the Aura's getting an ipv6 address
  4. WPA2/WPA mixed mode
  5. No. I always map MAC addresses to "static" IPs in my DHCP server for hardware that will be on my network for more than a day.
  6. 157680000 seconds (5 years)
  7. No mods or patches. I do normally keep wifi off unless I'm actively using it, for battery longevity

Wifi works if I reboot and then scan. But after that it refuses to connect.

I don't know how useful this is for the Kobo folks, but the Fritz!box has an undocumented feature that enables you to record packets in Wireshark format by browsing to the following URL: http://fritz.box/html/capture.html.

I've traced both an attempt to reconnect that was successful (after rebooting the Aura HD), and an unsuccessful attempt (the Aura HD hadn't been rebooted and had gone to sleep after the last boot). If as a work-around I setup the Fritz!box to assign a fixed IP-address to the Kobo, it will have no problems to reconnect, so I disabled the work-around, this way it will fail to reconnect every time.

I could submit these files to Kobo.

I am sure they would appreciate getting the files, ableeker. You can past them in here with a spoiler thingee to hide the length or you can put them in some place like dropbox. WHo knows, they might contact you directly through PM. Not sure if they are doing that. Kobo staff are following this thread closely.

I haven't looked at the files closely yet, but I'm a bit hesitant to publish them in a public place in case they contain my Kobo account password in a readable format. I have no problem handing them to Kobo of course.

ableeker: I doubt it will have the password in a readable form. But, I have passed your concerns on an asked for a contact direct to you or assurances about what is in there. I'm not sure what will happen. If you are willing to trust taming or myself, you could PM one of us a link and we can pass that on.

Kobo has contacted me, and I've sent them the captures. I hope it helps them to solve the WiFi problem.

I've a very strange experience here. For a week, I had to switch off my router because my ISP has a severe downtime (cable cut in my street).

Since I've turned the router back on, my Kobo is connecting to it without any problem. Even after restarting the router multiple times, even after restarting the Kobo itself.

It is really really weird and is similar to what I experienced in January (I went on vacation for 3 days and, after that, the Kobo was able to connect to my router for 1 month without reboot before falling again, without any reason, in the "I don't connect without a reboot").

I have absolutely no explanation for that strange behaviour.

2. 3.3.0
3. Trendnet TEW-652BRP, firmware 3.00613
4. WAP2 (Fails immediately with WAP2, but with WAP it tries but still always fails)
5. No success with static IP
6. Lease time - 1 week (10080 min?)
7. No modifications

I have a computer and two Android devices that connect with no issues at all.
