![]() I already added the Calibre Editor subforum in my "daily fix", but it just doesn't have the same feel as over here (yet)! And I too am not moving from Sigil... the Spellcheck Tool (I still use it to catch all the accidental OCR hyphens), Saved Searches, Clips, and (HTML/Style/Link/Character) Reports are extremely important to me when creating books. I will probably still be cranking out a massive amount using Sigil for a long while! |

One of the main reasons I still use Sigil is the features mentioned that are still missing.
I prefer The Calibre version of validate (and fix). So I have 2 EPUB edit tools in my toolbox. I get to use both. |

I'm starting to "dip my toes" into the new editor's waters. I suspect I will eventually make a wholesale switch, though.
I love(ed) Sigil, but C++ is a huge barrier to me (and I suspect many) being able to contribute. I suck at Python, too, but at least I'm not completely baffled by it. ![]() We probably should have a Sigil Users support group/thread, though! |

A great way to become proficient in python (or any language) is to read through an experienced python developers' codebase with an eye to making changes/improvements.
While I dont claim to be a great python master, I have written a fair bit of python in the last decade, so the editor's code should expose you to lots of idiomatic python. And feel free to ask if you find something hard to understand. I will be delighted to offer pointers. |

I can honestly say that all I've ever learned about python has come either from calibre's codebase, contributors to (Kindle|Mobi)Unpack here at MR, or friends of a certain Apprentice (with maybe a bit of Stack Overflow on the side).
You've given me several pointers along the way (and I've stolen countless more pointers you've given others) -- for which I'm eternally greatful. True "proficiency" may be a pipe-dream for me. But I'm perfectly content with tweaking and debugging in the meantime. ![]() |
