Thank you, and as before I shall report back once I have carried out the further steps that you suggest.

Instead of the convert, you could try edit book in calibre. This has its own validater. When you select errors there is usually a fix option.
And as tshering suggested, uploading the epub here would give us a chance to look at the error. I'm very curious about what is causing this problem. |

I decided to try a factory re-set. I carried that out, then I installed Kobo DeskTop, which uploaded all of the books that I have bought from Kobo. I also up-loaded a few ePub books that I have down-loaded from other sources.
When I try to read the Kobo books, all goes well, save that after every few pages, it jumps back to an earlier page, and I must read on from there, sweeping if necessary to return to the point that I had reached. When I try to read the other books, the KT freezes after a few pages. Now, touching or sweeping the screen will not work, the navigator-switch does not work, and I cannot put the KT to sleep. All that I can do is hold the off-slide to 'off' for a minute or so until the Kt restarts, always taking me back to a point in the text some pages behind the point that I had actually reached. Ought I to give up hope and buy an e-reader of a different make ? |

Kobo has just replied that I ought to do a factory re-set, but 2 of those have got me absolutely nowhere, so my thoughts are turning towards e-readers from other manufacturers.

What firmware version is on the reader? There are other threads in the forum where Touch owners were having issues with firmware 3.0.1 freezing up I wonder if it may be relevant?
Sorry, went back and saw you had 3.0.1 earlier in the thread(missed it when I looked earlier), perhaps roll the firmware back, interrupt the update using the Kobo App and try side loading 3.0.0. It's running fine on my Touch N905B, and it seems you'd have nothing to lose as you could easily reset again and end up at 3.0.1 Last edited by TechniSol; 02-21-2014 at 12:06 AM. |

- From the library list, do a long press on a purchased kepub. This will display a menu. - Select "Remove". - On the "Remove from..." prompt, make sure only "eReader" is selected and then press the "Remove" button. - This will removed the file for the book from the device and cleanup the database. There will be an entry in the library for the book with "Download" next to it. - Press the book entry in the library to start the download. When the book has been downloaded, can you test to see if you still have the page turning problem? It shouldn't be any different, but... Quote:
An alternative to this is to get an epub from the library here. These are usually well constructed without any errors. If you have the same problem with one of these, we can easily check it ourselves. And having a problem with one of them and others not seeing it, will indicate it is a problem with the device. Quote:

Here is a link to an epub that has been one of those affected by freezing: https://www.dropbox.com/s/50if5q0hhd...%2C%20The.epub.
Thank you so much for offering to look at it. |

"If you have WiFi access, could you try something? What I want is to try deleting the kepub from the device and downloading it again diretly to the device."
I have set Wi-fi to 'On' in the Kobo, and found the router. However, I am not sure how to do what you suggest using wi-fi, as opposed to doing it with a USB-cabled connexion to this computer. The sample book for deletion is a Project Gutenberg one that I downloaded, possibly from ManyBooks.net, to this MacBook Air. If I delete the copy that is in my Kobo, how do I re-install it using wi-fi ? |

And I had a look at the book on both my Touch and Glo. Neither had a problem with it. I also had a look inside. The code was pretty clean. There were a couple of warnings for the CSS, but they didn't cause any problems. I cannot see any reason for this to cause a problem. |

APOLOGY -- DavidFor and other helpful contributors, I must apologise to you all for wasting your time. I have found what was wrong, and the fault was mine. With my older firmware, I used to turn pages by a sweeping movement of my finger on the screen. With the later firmware, all that is required is a light touch of my finger on the screen. Sweeping turns multiple pages, and eventually, it seems, causes the traffic-jams in the Kobo's memory that have troubled me. I am truly grateful to you all for your patience, and hope that we can put the past behind us !

That does explain it a bit, but not completely.
All versions of the firmware that I have used allow both tapping and horizontal swiping to turn the page. The tapping has three layouts for where on the screen will page forward, backwards or open the menu. The swiping is always left-to-right to page backwards, and right-to-left for forwards. We have a lot of reports over time with people having trouble with one of these. A common problem is double page turns on a tap, but swipes working correctly. Others find that swiping doesn't work, but tapping does. For me, I usually tap, but will swipe with my thumb when holding it one handed and reach the spot to turn the page. That usually means I tap to page forward and swipe to go backwards. I haven't seen anything like you are seeing, but then I don't usually turn many pages consecutively by swiping. If I can remember, I'll try swiping only the next time I'm reading to see what happens. |

I have given up, and bought a Kindle Paperwhite. Even taking into account the higher price, and ignoring the back-lighting, the difference in quality is enormous. I probably ought to have done this before...
My thanks to everyone that has come to my help. |
