the kindle keyboard is surprisingly aweful. the buttons r plastic instead of rubber. if they were rubber....would be 10 times easier. they are slippery and spaced weirdly.

Are the Kindle and Sony Reader Obsolete?

I was on the verge of buying a Sony Reader last year and heard that they didn't display PDF files well. I balked and then I heard about the Kindle. Interesting as these machines are I wondered how long before they become obsolete.

I was playing with an Ipad the other day and it has much more functionality than the readers, plus it acts as a reader. Do you think Sony and Amazon will match the capabilities of the Ipad?

I still haven't bought anything yet. I'm afraid to get caught in the technological wasteland of VHS vs. BETA!

If you are going to be reading for long periods of time, the e-ink will be easier on your eyes. I have a netbook that I use for most things, and do my reading on the Kindle. Its not that much extra weight, about the same expense ($189 + $300 = $489 v. $499). I really like having the netbook because the keyboard gives me a functionality that the ipad doesn't have.

I think the iPad's time will come, especially as they start getting bluetooth keyboards out on the market, but as an overall solution I like the Kindle + Netbook much better.
