I don't get a prompt to import. The ONLY thing I get is asking if I want to Open or Save. I choose open, then go to my Sony Reader for PC, latest version and select all books not just ones bought at the Sony store and the library book is there. No problems whatsoever. I believe OP is having issues because they're using ADE when they simply don't have to. It's not necessary. You can just use the Sony software & it works very easy. I've never had a problem getting a library book on my computer. |

I did some googling and came across an instruction page from the Vancouver library (not my library, just found this by chance) which indicates things may work slightly differently with different browsers.
http://guides.vpl.ca/sony-ereaders Here's a quote: Download eBooks to Your Computer and Transfer to your Sony eReader •Select a format (EPUB format is recommended) •Click the download button and open the downloaded file with the Sony for PC or Sony for Mac software •The eBook will begin to download •Depending on the Internet browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari or Chrome) that you use, the eBook may open automatically, or you may need to locate the .acsm file in the download folder on your computer, ◦Once you've located the .acsm file, right mouse click on it and select Open With from the menu ◦Choose Sony Reader for PC or Sony Reader for Mac as the program to open the file with •Using a different browser can sometimes solve the issue if you have trouble opening the eBook or locating the .ascm file |

In summary I think whether or not you see the prompt is based on whether or not the Reader software is already open when you download the book from the library. |

yes the prompt is noting to do with having ADe installed or not, if comes from a helper process that the sony reader process launches. With new install, Sony adds that as a n always-running service, so it will jump up whenever you download anything from anywhere that might possible be a book!. you can kill the service, like I did, but you can't completely eliminate it.
it seems from multiple posts that the correct answer to the prompt is NO ( meaning yes of course I want it imported but I'm telling you NO because you are an annoying bit of software that does not understand yes) Chrome has no equivalent for IE's open or save option. Open does not write the ascm file to any PC folder, it just opens & discards it, which is a neat n tidy choice as it's an only-works-once file anyway. But I had great trouble ( & google says others do to) getting IE to open with ADEv2.0. it was happy to open with the older version but the new version would not associate with ascm. That's maybe fixable but I gave up & reinstalled the older version.. |

The process works the same for me whether or not the Reader for PC software is open (often I have opened it before going to the library site, in order to return a book to make room for a new one).
The only other browser on my computer is Firefox, which I rarely use - maybe the next time I get a library book I will try using Firefox and see if anything happens differently than with IE. |

Following up on my previous post, today I tried using Firefox; when I went to download a library book, I got a popup asking whether to save, or to open, and if I wanted to open, I had to select a program to open with; at that point I just canceled and went back to Internet Explorer since it has always worked so simply for me.

![]() In theory, ADE/Sony reader was supposed to tell FF/IE/Chrome that it handles .acsm files, but clearly it didn't work -- maybe you installed FF after you installed ADE/Sony reader? Once you do that, the choice will always be associated with .acsm files in the future. |

....assuming you can get file association to work. ADE1.7 works for me - no issues.
But I've never been able to get windows to link to ADEv2.0 . doesn't seem to matter if I remove 1.7 or leave it be. Maybe a new PC that never had 1.7 installed would be better behaved - this is with Windows 7 64bit. Adobe use the same name for both .exe which is not helpful - they install to different folders though. I've done all of the recommended file association troubleshooting. I've not tried a 3rd party force-file-associations-solution as it's not that big a deal, I am happy to let 1.7 handle the library stuff, |

Sony Reader didn't pop up in the list of programs to choose from and I didn't feel like browsing through the whole system for it; this was just an experiment anyway since I am happy with IE
