After 3 months, amazon has solved the screen problems in the new kp?

I have two very tiny pinholes at the bottom of mine, perhaps a pixel or two above the level of the percentage finished and location numbers, towards the center of the screen. As they're never particularly bright and they're well out of the way of any text, they don't distract me. Consequently, I can't see putting myself or Amazon through the nuisance of a return for an otherwise perfect unit. But I *do* read with the light at or above 15 pretty regularly--so if I had a brighter pinhole in the middle of the screen, I'd probably have to exchange it for another device.

It's all a matter of to what degree it bothers you. Do what works best for you.

I agree my PW1 had colour hues above setting 15 in low light but since I never had it above 5 in low light settings it never bothered me and so I didn't exchange it.

That's what I found slightly annoying about some of the PW1 reports: people would post photographs of their PW in total darkness with the light on its maximum brightness and say "look how terrible my screen is!". I'm sorry, but unless you're going to be using your reader in complete darkness and maximum brightness (which nobody would ever do), why does it matter what it looks like in such extreme conditions? All that matters (IMHO) is what the screen looks like in the conditions in which you actually use it.

Both my PW1 and PW2 have been excellent. I expect my equipment to work great in the conditions I use them in, and if it does, then I am a happy camper.

I had a blotchy screen on two PW1s, both with very pink corners which tied in with a squeaky/creaky noise when the corners were just lightly held - made me think there'd be trouble down the line. Third was lovely and my mum is greatly enjoying it now.

PW2, the first was a tad blotchy - muddy centre to the screen, pinkish edge. Not that strong, but noticeable.

The replacement and the one I bought for my husband (Christmas) are both really great. Totally even screen, light sepia, no issues at all. Absolutely my favourite device. At one point I had three PW2s side by side and both my parents and husband could see that the second two were better than the first, bought a couple of months earlier.

But the timing could have been coincidental, and I absolutely agree that the only thing that matters is normal usage. Its not meant to be a torch (although it does come in handy if you need to find something in the middle of the night and don't want to wake dogs or partner )

Did you return any of your PW2?

I just bought one from Staples tonight because it was $20 cheaper than Amazon. Now I am having 2nd thoughts because returns are only 14 days. If something is wrong with it not sure how Staples is with returns. Wasn't real impressed with their CS. I usually buy directly from Amazon, but $20 is $20.

Can you tell from the box and serial number how new the PW is? If it has been sitting there in the store 6 months or not.

I am also worrying that it might not be any better than my PW1 and not sure how Staples is with returning for that reason.

Actually, I haven't opened it yet. Now I only have 13 days if I have to return.

I have the PW1 and if it is not nice screen improvement I wouldn't want to keep, but Staples seems to be very strict with returns (just a feeling).

Rather than relying on feelings, why not call them and ask them what their return policy is?

Just open it and see if it's to your liking. If not, return it.

After Amazon email said they would replace if warranty problems within a year I decided risk it. So opened and plugged in, I can already tell the screen is better than the PW1.

Okay I compared the PW1 to PW2 and the PW2 is my favorite! No shadows at the bottom. Page numbers yeah! I can skip around the book and return to where I was. Lighting is a bit more even, and the response is better for page turning. So all in all I am happy with the upgrade. But PW1 should have been PW2. I feel Amazon should have released PW2 version as their first, but I have forgiven them. Why? Because I my first ereader was a Sony PR505, and that was full of flaws, locked up, heavy, etc.

So I am very happy with my upgrade. A review I read said if you have the PW1 you do not need the PW2, not a big enough upgrade. I disagree, as I am a heavy reader and the upgrades are enough for me.

I have a PW2, received it late December and the screen is perfect. It was a replacement for one I bought a month or so earlier which did have a pink tinge to one side of the screen - but my husband is happy with that one so the tinge wasn't very strong.

New, I'm with you. My PW2 is def an improvement on the PW1 to me. Although my mother prefers the blue tinge of the PW1, so it really is horses for courses....
