Speaking of the treasures, have you been able to get the pseudo GPS to work? I can't, on mine, and I'm not sure if a) I'm doing it wrong, or b) I live in an area that's not covered by enough "towers" to triangulate or c)that's no longer possible with the Kindle.

Yep - since I'm out in the hinterlands, there's only one tower near me (about 4 miles away) and it shows the location of that tower clearly.

I've noticed it tends to do better if you leave it on and move around ( a few city blocks worth of moving) as that seems to give it a better change to triangulate you.

I've seen mine work from time to time
(not that I really try it much, I have better GPS solutions available to me)
But I do get the "Not Available, Not Available" too...

I just went to the amazon website and here is what I found and here is the link.

"To check the software version installed on your Kindle:

Set your Kindle power switch to the "ON" position.


Press the Home key and then select "Settings" from the Home menu.


View the version listed at the bottom of the Settings screen. The version listed should be "Kindle 1.0.4 (144750018)" or "Kindle 1.0.8 (164820023).""

I also just found this.

The current version of your Kindle software is listed in your Kindle settings. If you see version 1.0.4 or 1.0.8 listed, you have the most recent software version. (There is no difference between these software versions.)

they should have said, no functional difference. I think there is a different hardware part in the newer readers that required the change in firmware. Likely just a vendor change or something minor.

Screen savers? Why do you need screen savers on an eInk device? It doesn't suffer "burn in" like a CRT does!
