Yup, greater accessibility on all levels. My mother is finally able to enjoy Wolf Hall because she can up the font size. Old stuff becomes accessible as does the new. I'm a trained book binder so when people convinced that hard copy is the only way to go hear me sing the praises of ebooks, they always look slightly scandalised: you mean you like dogs AND cats? But they're mutually exclusive surely.....
And I love baked beans and porridge, tho prob not at the same time. Simple, nutritious comfort food perfect for the end of a testing day when you can't be arsed to cook anything more complex - just like Freeman and Conan Doyle. |

How have you downloaded them? Try right click the file name, select "Save Linked Content As..." or "Save to Download Folder". In the first case you can choose where you want to save the file, in the second it goes into your default download folder.

I found & deleted them! They were in some PHP format I couldn't even get Calibre to open! This is the 2nd time I tried to get ebooks form MR that I couldn't use... was a heck of a reminder how books from here are messed up.

Perhaps it is your ignorance that is the cause of the problem? I am entirely certain that there is nothing wrong with the books.

Definitely not my overall experience either. And it's certainly not these specific files, as they downloaded fine for me just a few days ago. I'd suggest a quick look around the forums or perhaps politely asking for help. It's typically a browser configuration issue on the user end, not a problem with the files.

The solution is completely trivial, for those who have courtesy enough to ask.

Katie, I think you experienced the same problem as some other members experienced recently.
Please, read this post https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=231927 and see if it helps you. |

If you don't realise how astonishingly offensive your comment that "was a heck of a reminder how books from here are messed up." is to everyone who freely devotes their time to create beautifully-formatted books for the MR library, it's very sad.

Katie, these books are uploaded in a time consuming process for our pleasure and it costs us nothing to use the facility. So even if there were issues your tone would be out of line.
As it is, they are trouble free to access and if you load the catalogue, a simple thing to do and very well-explained, then you can even access the whole library right from your device. This is an excellent facility and kindly organised by people who are giving up their free time so we can benefit from these books. If you have a problem, just mention it nicely and lots of people will jump in to help. But if you snarl, people will snarl back. Would you be so harsh if you could see us face to face, if we were all in a cafe or a pub? There are people behind the screens. |
