I don't use the Software Center, I use Synaptic, but the same idea.

In Synaptic, you just go: Settings --> Repositories --> Other Software --> Add. Then paste this line:

ppa:rgibert/ebook

into the text field that says "APT line". Click the "Add Source" button. When the dialog closes, hit the "Close" button on the remaining dialog window. Then click the "Reload" button in the main window.

Now, if you're comfortable with Synaptic, install it from there. If not, close Synaptic and return to the Software Center and refresh and search for Sigil.

If Synaptic is not installed on your system, you should be able to install it from Software Center. You can only have one of these apps open and working at a time -- the first one opened will lock the other out.

Hope that helps.

I run a bastardized version of Mint, because I was in too much of a hurry last time to do a minimal ubuntu install. I prefer XFCE, myself.

Don't worry about the window manager, all the 'buntu's are more-or-less compatible. Sometimes you just have to install some extra stuff, that's all.

As for XP and its potential vulnerability post April 1: XP won't magically change overnight but the attacks are always changing and XP will no longer be being updated to protect itself.
Thanks latepaul. I've got a while to get used to Linux and there's lots of tutorials, so I'll just pick it up piece by piece. And I really do like XP so maybe I'll just go on using that too. Appreciate the advice.

I've got the XP pretty loaded up with AV and scanners. I can fight off those darn viruses till the bitter end. And yeah, I know the newer software will be the issue. Thanks for the input.

Thanks eschwartz. I'm not tricking anybody. I'm just trying to understand this stuff. I like using the newer versions of Sigil. (That "view" window with the automatic warnings if something was off was an incredible boon.) Thanks.

Obviously, by "trick" I mean tell a repository to give you a version meant for a different edition of the OS. Like telling the Gibert repository to install the Ubuntu 13.10 version of Sigil on a Ubuntu 12.04 system. Even though they are probably the exact same exectuable files, the software center (really, apt-get) might not realize that.

That really helps, capidamonte. That'll get me into it for sure. I'm guessing I'll head back to the Software Center to get it after the reload. Maybe not. But now you've given me a concrete way of getting it. Thanks. And no, do not have Synaptic yet. Read about it a bit after your last post but did not know I could get it from the software center. Perfect. And yeah, definitely going to check out the different versions. Thanks much.

The regular Ubuntu setup includes Synaptic Package Manager, but you have to cast around a bit by clicking on the bar on the left side of the screen to find where it lists all the installed and available programs...not very intuitive. If my aging memory serves, once you find it you can drag it to that bar so it doesn't get lost again.

+1 for the old Synaptic

When a program is 'open' (in use), right click the Icon: Pin to Menubar

I created a shell script consisting of Kovid's commandline for the Linux Update. That is pinned to my Menubar

(Grumps: The old Ubuntu menu was so much easier to deal with /Grumps)

But I gotta tell you you put a panic into me with the 0.7.2 converting   into a regular space (and breaking blank paragraphs used as scene breaks). I used to do that a lot a long time ago and I'm sure it was with Sigil versions earlier than 0.7.2 BUT I did have a lot of scene breaks using  s as spacers to center the asterisks (which were scene breaks) in my current stuff. I'm on a different computer so I can't check it out now but in all the proofing it looked okay so I think I'm all right. And thanks for the change log. Appreciate it.

Glad I asked about the "Look Out." I would've been going out of my way to install it because you recommended it! I've used Tbird. It's okay. Just asking for passwords on incoming and outgoing email was a little tedious. I'll have to check into Web Mail. I Googled it and came up blank. Got a link for it? Thx.

In fact, I know you were (an early commenter) on the thread here where we discussed this. For laziness' sake, haven't you fixed this already?!?!?!

Put this (^) script in a cron job.
