It's also been used a fair amount for plain old regular linear fiction books which is how most folks I know have encountered it. I get that it was a quick & dirty way to get those books out in the early days of the ebook markets big growth, it's just a shame that a lot of those books have never been replaced with Mobi or KF8 even now that many of them have been done as ePub's.

That is of course true, but if you're reading them on the Kindle, there's really no reason that you'd need to convert them, is there?

No, that's true, but personally I like to have a backup copy of everything and the OCR text and glyph svg files from the Topaz aren't what I consider a great backup copy.
