You don't need to have an external SD card reader. When you connect the Gen3 to your PC, you should see two drives appear in Windows Explorer - one for the Gen3 itself and one for the SD card. Simply copy the "update_kernel" file to the root (ie the highest level) of the drive that represents the SD card.

Thanks for the quick reply Harry. I did as you said - only possible it seems by opening Windows Explorer and not My PC, where there's just a window with no higher or lower levels. I did get the update file installed and working.
It's frustrating though, as I don't think the Bookeen instructions are very clear. First, you can't do anything if the Gen3 is not switched on and connected to your computer - no drives will appear on your computer. Ok, once you've copied the update_kernel file to the SD card drive, switch off the Gen3. Remove the SD card, switch on the Gen3, insert card, etc. I hate to take up your time, but could you outline for me the procedure of installing dictionaries on the Gen3? I've used the dictionary lookup facility but don't get back to the book I'm reading with the 'back' button. Either I haven't installed the dictionaries correctly, or something is wrong with my device. |

The back button goes back one step so you might have to press it more than once.

Also, you don't have to turn on the Cybook without the card and then insert it, you can just insert the card when the Cybook is off and then switch it on. Or, if you copied the file with the card inserted in the Cybook, just turn it off and then on again. |

Thanks for your input everyone!
Tommy, so far, pressing the 'back' button has only been taking me back in the dictionary and not to the text I was reading. Maybe I should install the dictionaries on the SD card exactly as I did the new update? I'll try later today when I get time and report back. Thanks again, Mike |

What back button are you pressing? If you are holding the Cybook in front of you, there are four small buttons on the left side of the Cybook....Are you pressing the second button from the bottom on the side of the Cybook? Last edited by ProfJulie; 05-10-2008 at 11:43 AM. |

Hi ProfJulie, you seem to have caught the nub of the problem! I was pressing the 'back' instruction given by the 'enter' button after the dictionary lookup, instead of the second button from the bottom, as you indicated. Now I can get back to my reading without undue delay.
The whole business of installing the (Mobipocket) dictionaries - via mobipocket - is still mysterious to me though and when I get some time I'll relate what happens with my Gen3. |

Glad to help out! I caught the nub of the problem only because I recognized what you described....I got the same result before I figured out I was pressing the wrong button.
