Do you think if I made a few indecent proposals to Siri that she would eventually accept ?
I can't help but imagine she must be hot (Especially since I saw a certain episode of the Big Bang Theory) |

Maybe there's a list of answers for that one. I'm sure people are saying all sorts of silly things to Siri just for laughs. ![]() |

[This was originally a response to two slightly uncharitable comments about Susan Bennet's looks which have since been deleted.]
Not that I want to get into a conversation about rating people's appearances, but even Sigourney Weaver looks a bit like that photo these days. To be fair to Susan Bennet, we should admit that women are typically considered most beautiful when they're young. It's very possible that Bennet looked more conventionally attractive in her 20s and 30s. I'd bank on it, actually, considering the line of work she was in. Yes, it comes down to the voice, but you're far more likely to get hired early in your career if you look as good to your prospective employers as you sound. Given that she was married to a professional hockey player when she was younger, yes she was quite attractive when she was a young woman. I believe that she is now in her mid to late 60's.

I use it in the car quite a bit to launch apps that are buried in folders. I say "launch Spotify" or "launch umano".
Works great. I wish Siri would read my email though, that would be useful. I will add that Siri works great using the built-in mic or a good bluetooth headset. I have lots of problems when I attempt to use a bluetooth receiver I bought for my car. YMMV but if you have a bluetooth mic built into your car and are having problems with voice recognition, try using the handset mic instead. |

Oh, yeah... I use the "Launch X" command a lot when I use my (Lifeproof encased) iPhone in the pool and wet hands make it difficult to slide to unlock.

I'm glad someone else here likes Umano. Awesome service.

I like using Siri to asked questions and look up information quickly. It works very well for that purpose. But whenever I try to dictate an email or text message it comes out gibberish! Not sure why. Anyone else notice that? Perhaps Apple is using something other than Siri for dictation that doesn't interpret voice as well.

Siri is supposed to get better the more you use it. Sometimes it does surprisingly well for me, and other times it mangles it so much it would have been easier to type.
Also, did you know you can teach Siri about your family members? Once you do this you can tell it "Call Mom" or "text my husband." I just thought of another time when it comes in handy... when you want to update your Facebook or Twitter status without leaving something else you are doing. I'll even use it when I'm already in the Facebook app if I want to post something but don't want to lose my place in my feed. |

Sometimes Siri does a good job of voice recognition and sometimes it is garbage. A bit frustrating! I find the voice dictation on the keyboard is more consistent than Siri.
In addition to telling Siri about relationships (like mom, husband, brother, etc), you can teach Siri how to say names. All you do is tell Siri that's not how you pronounce it when it's wrong. I use Siri to set reminders such as remind me to do abc when I get to work. I also use it to set alarms. I use Siri for sending quick text messages. Siri is also good for finding emails. For example you can ask Siri to find emails from Abc and then select the one you want to read or reply to and it opens it in Mail all ready to go. In addition to asking Siri to define a word as someone mentioned earlier, you can be specific and say show me in Wikipedia instead of the default dictionary. I use it to say show me images of xyz. I use it to look up information such as weather, sports scores and movie times. I use it frequently to open apps as others have mentioned. Really all you have to do is ask and see what happens. Sometimes you have to think about how to phrase the question better to think in terms of the commands Siri might need to execute to do what you ask. |
