Amazon is running a Valentine's Day sale on all Kindle Fires except the $139 HD model. The 7" models are $30 off and the 8.9" models are $40 off. Not sure when this sale will expire.

Since the older HD 8.9 was already marked $40 off, it is now $80 off (only in the smaller memory configuration).

But it's been marked down for so long, the $229 price appears to be its current retail.

It would appear so, but it is still marked as a drop (and only on the 16GB model, the 32G model didn't drop).

Several of the models on that one are now sold out, also, as it winds down to it's end of life.

Yes. not for the better yet - you are told when Kindle edition gets you cheaper price or exists - but no link to it now. They hope to get that fixed.

unlike Amazon, where they intentionally removed the link to view reviews at audible and now only have and "add to cart" button from amazon-to-audible direction.
