I like my PW2 very much, and prefer its warm colour over the bluer tone of the PW1. Neither had any issues with the screen.
I'm still "iffy" about using a backlit screen for reading in bed. I gave my Kindle Touch to my sister, when I first got the PW1; however, have since swopped the PW1 to get the Touch back. The Touch has a kindle cover with the built in light, and I find it more restful than the backlit screen. It may just be all in my head - hence the "iff" part. But I definitely prefer the PW2 for non-bedtime reading -it's a great reader, that I'd recommend highly to anyone thinking about a purchase. |

Yes. My screen is better than on the paperwhite 1. I also like the new features.

Yes, pw2 screen is better than pw1 screen, however kobo glo screen is better (whiter background, darker fonts) than either. But - and a big one - it is much slower than either the pw1 or pw2!

It should be noted that opinions are just that: subjective opinions. I personally find that, while my Kobo Glo is an excellent reader [not counting the flakey on/off firmware updates], that - in my opinion - the Kindle Paperwhite 2 has better contrast than my Kobo Glo, and that the Kindle makes for a more enjoyable reading experience. Opinions are interesting things to contemplate and pour over. ![]() Don |

Yes, I love mine. It's so much better than my color blobby PW1 was. I could nit pick as it does have some faults and things that I wish were different/better, but overall I really love mine.

Every device we own has flaws and features. Its our choice to dwell on the flaws or dwell on the features. Plus, every year the new generation has more features than the previous generation. We can't expect prior generations to be updated to match the future generations.
In addition all of us have specialized interests. We cannot expect any manufacturer to cater to our own special interests. The PW 2013 is great for me and I fully expect the PW 2014 to be even better. |

I voted no. The PW2 is designed to shine in darker reading environments (pun intended). However, with many good Android and iOS tablets sporting much higher resolution and pixel densities, they blow the PW2 out of the water in low and medium light environments. The eInks are way behind the curve. The only reason I would own an eInk now would be for outdoor reading, which I rarely do. And outdoors you don't need a lighted eInk screen which greatly degrades the reading experience. I would go for a K4B long before trying another PW2.

With that said until 5.4.2 I thought the pw2 was better than the pw1. The flipage alone made it a much better experience for me. But with the limited GR integration and the awful Cloud Collections, my experience tanked to the toilet. As far as reading goes, the pw2 is awesome. As far as the other features, I wish I still had my pw1, heck at this point I wish I still had my k2, basic or Touch, anything except this pw2. |

I got one for Christmas. No 3g, which I kind of need. But, hey - it's a present.
Compared to my PW1 3g: The screen is much better than my PW1. More yellowish - which I don't like. But lighter background, darker font, more uniform lighting. A big winner, overall. More of an improvement than I would have expected. Battery life is longer, probably due to not having 3g. Maybe it needs more testing. But my PW1 had about 10-12 hours in it. Here it's more like 16. More testing needed. It's lighter. Again, is it because of no 3g? Small difference, anyhow. More ghosting. It doesn't bother me when reading books, but I do notice it when reading the Financial Times, probably because of the pictures, which leave more noticeable shadows at page flips. Faster. Much faster, all around. Goodreads is a plus. They could have done more with it, but it's a start. I like the feel of the screen, less granular. The touch is more precise. Highlighting is easier. The touch is perhaps a bit too sensitive. I had more accidental page turns than on the PW1. I like the vocabulary builder. About time... Page turns with bookmark function or whatever you want to call that... being able to go to a page and then flip back easily is neat. Collections. I never used many. Had them on my iPad app. Five large collections in all. They transferred over. Worked like a charm. I am ok with it. I can see why people are annoyed. But, for me, it worked. I like the way the new dictionary window is setup. Page numbers!!!! I mean... PAGE NUMBERS!!!! Yes, yes, I know, you could have them before... but finally I don't have to stare at loc or time to read. Call me old-school, but I love page numbers. Overall... I am a happy camper. |

PW2 was a huge improvement for me...
.....coming from a K3. Self lit screen is great, background is very white compared to the K3, is much faster too. My first ereader was a Sony 505 then I went to the K3. For me at least, the collections are actually a feature. I fired it up, registered it, and there was my stuff! Or at least the ghosts of my books that were still in the cloud but you get gist...Great little device that does all I need it to.

The PW2 is a very nice device using the earlier Firmware. The latest firmware makes it inferior to the Kobo. Depending on when and how Amazon decides to fix the PW2 firmware mess I may switch to the Kobo. I am recommending to my friends that they hold off on getting a PW2 until we see if a fix comes in.

I have had several readers, Sony, DXG, iPad. The PW 2 is the best so far. I still read some on the iPad but the PW2 beats all!
