The whole concept of DRM for ebooks is stupid. A typical paperback cost $8. A typical CD costs twice that. With any CD I can copy it to my computer and then load it onto any mp3 player or smartphone I own yet it is the ebook version of the paperback they obsess about copy protecting. Maybe for new releases of hardbacks or very expensive nonfiction there might be some justification but for all the books similar to the the Harlequin romances of which they release about 20/month and other such genre books that are consumed like junk food it's ridiculous.

But it's the gift that keeps on giving. Once they've invested in DRM, there's little to no cost in maintaining it, it would probably be more expensive to manage exceptions. And voila, just enough of an obstacle to slow most folk down. I haven't tried removing it myself, maybe for the husband's new Robert Parker....

Slow them down by using DRM?
Even now, almost 35 years (!) after the advent of the home computer, even telling some "normal" people to copy a file to a different drive or folder can grind them to a halt. No DRM needed. Last edited by Katsunami; 01-10-2014 at 11:46 AM. |

Convert them to EPUB then. In that case, they're still readable on a 6 inch reader.
