I have converted all my files into AZ3 in Calibre, but during this update I had to reimport them into Calibre, without doing any converting at all. I ran into problems with some, and have since left them as mobi. At the time I was too busy and too lazy to figure out why they were not working in Amazon. Most likely because they are KF8s. But now that all that is done I will mess around with them to see if they are not being recognized because they are FK8. Oh and I was wrong, there are over 350 of them. But other than their name, is there a way to see which they are? I vaguely remember using something to see "into" them but it has been so long I do not remember how I did that. |

You mean, to see what format they are? You can add a custom column labeled format, and all the formats will show in it.

Thanks but what I was looking for was a way tell if the mobi file was kf8 or not, but I found the kindle previewer program. So now i have to test some Calibre conversions to use with the mobi editor program. |

Well the format column will show MOBI or AZW3, which is KF8, so you would know at a glance.

AZW3 is a "pure" KF8 file, but a Mobi file can be "pure" Mobi, or contain both a Mobi and a KF8 version of the book. You can configure Calibre to create either. The reason it's important is that Calibre plugboards don't work with "dual" Mobi files.

I know the Mobi-unpack plugin will give show the option to split the file into mobi/kf8 if you have a dual mobi. I think you'll have to go through the files one by one though.
Maybe the scripts behind the plugin can be used for a batch operation. |

I have been able to use to tool on my azw3 and mobi files, all my mobi files are the mixed k7/k8 format. But I have converted all of them to azw3 and then used the tool on them. So now all my Amazon files are azw3.
