As for Dropbox I just found out that it's not syncing all my stuff. I wonder how long this has been going on. Site recommended unlinking and relinking program. Now it's uploading 5000 files I thought were already sync. So thank goodness for this thread I would have never played with the program and realized it. It use to be you could view their logs but they took that option out. You also can no longer through their site see the properties of a folder. It's a huge guessing game now.

By logs you mean dropbox.com/events? I have noticed they seem to have given that page a lobotomy.

In dropbox, you are using the shortcut.ink, not symlink?

What are .lnk files?

« Back to Help Center

Files of type .lnk are Windows shortcut files. These are just pointers in Windows that point to your original files. Dropbox can't follow these links, so you'll need to place the original files into your Dropbox folder in order to sync them.
As far as symlinks go, I believe I read somewhere but I can't figure out where, that Dropbox cannot tell when files are modified when they are hidden behind a symlink (this is Windows' fault) so it only syncs symlinked files upon startup.

Oh no I am not syncing shortcuts on Dropbox just files and folders and what happened was I was getting rejected by server error and didn't know it because it no longer notifies you if there is error so while the folders all have green checks in them they weren't really on the DB's server.

I just happen to look at the right click menu and saw it reject my latest sync. I had come to trust Dropbox as I have never had issue before and now I am leery. I wonder if it's because I am at 80% of my space.

Right-click menu where? And you could try excluding that folder alone, rather than unlinking totally.

I see errors when running dropbox.py status just for the record.

On Windows when you when you right click on the Dropbox icon in the system tray it shows a menu with the latest file changes.

If I exclude it the folder wont sync it. It's all fix now by unlinking then relinking my computer from Dropbox's account seems to have it acting shiny again. It did have to reindex then upload the missing files so it took about two hours.

I have the same tray icon but I never noticed it saying failures of any kind. Then again I don't really look at it so much -- and running from the command line tends to make it not show up...

For the future, I figure if you exclude the folder then include it it will probably resync the same as unlinking then relinking, but on a smaller level. I haven't tested it though. It would take much less time than a full re-index?

Maybe I will try if it happens again. I have 15.7GB on my Dropbox I guess the index got corrupted somehow

It will only say error if you catch while it's syncing once it's done it says everything is successful.

Copyright law has no involvement in the matter unless you make your Dropbox folder public, which I'm assuming you have the good sense not to do.
