SF Gateway replied to me and confirmed that they've had issues before with Kobo's process adding unwanted code to their books. They've said they will raise this issue with them but judging from the utterly uncomprehending black hole that is Kobo customer care, I very much doubt whether Kobo will do anything to fix this issue. They seem to have too many problems with basic comprehension to actually solve any problems.

Be sure to check previews before you buy anything from Kobo.

A ticket has been generated for the Kobo content team; whether or not anything comes of it is another matter.

Thanks a lot for your help with this. I think we all just want better quality ebooks especially of authors we love.

Quality is always good.

I was doing some research at the UBC library and found they had a couple of editions of Empires and Barbarians. One showed Oxford University Press as the publisher and looked very good. The other showed Pan/MacMillan as the publisher and was not quite up to the OUP edition's quality.

Regards,
David

I know this is an OLD thread but I've just been told that at least Emperors and Barbarians is fixed.

The word from Kobo was
Quote:
Hi Peter, this issue has been addressed.
You'll likely need to remove the book from your library (not just delete from your device) and re-add it to see the change.
