The Alphabet Mystery series by Sue Grafton might also be to your liking. The main caharcter is a female detective by the name of Kinsey Millhone The first one is "A" Is for Alibi", Grafton has come as far as W :-) It's not as goofy as the Stefanie Plum series but a little more light-hearted than V.I. Warshawski.

Has she tried the Fox & O'Hare Series by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg? TI have not read her Stephanie Plum Series but, this seems like it would be similar.

My wife has been reading Jacqueline Winspear's Maisie Dobbs series recently, and quite enjoys them. Maisie Dobbs is a psycholigist and PI, setting is between WW1 and WW2.

G.A. McKevett - An overweight fired lady cop turned P.I.
Joanne Fluke - A pastry shop owner who solves mysteries that she stumbles across.

Both are more in the "cozy mystery" category than Patterson or Grafton, though I do like those as well, but they are much more graphic/intense.

If you want lighthearted and humorous you might try the 5 Miss Seeton novels by Heron Carvic (only those by Heron Carvic not the Hamilton Crane ones written after Carvic's death). They are not detective novels but cozy mysteries and not yet available as ebooks but they are truely hilarious. His style of humor is unique and his characters are loveable.

The Hannah Swensen series by Joanne Fluke might fit the bill as well. Very easy to read, lighthearted, cozy mysteries. She is even torn between two men like Stephanie Plum! Start with Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder.
