Anyone notice the RRP of the readers on the site, then follow the Dick Smith link? They are quoting an extra $20 each for the kindle pw next Gen and fire to what amazon state.

I watched a House Hunters International episode once in which the husband was going on and on about how he needed a shed, and it was sort of incomprehensible. Over here, a shed is normally used for gardening/equipment storage as you use yours, and people usually have just one. Man caves are usually in the basement or attic.

Though not just the blokes use them, I grew up in my grandfather's shed building things. Had my own power tools since I was eight..

I think I will stick with the US store until they make it mandatory to change. Bigger selection of books.

The fact that books are generally much pricier in Australia than elsewhere has been complained about before. Anyone know precisely why?

Pretty sure it's taxes and a general higher cost of living (though we also have pretty decent minimum wage). Until a few years ago any new book I got was 30-50 dollars or more, and most of them were paperbacks or trade paperbacks. Kind of rubbish. :l God bless the internet.

10% GST can't account for the 50% (or more) increase in prices.

I'd guess (purely a guess though) that it has to do with the print publishing industry in the past and the cost of operating a separate Australian branch (with separate rights, etc.) vs a smaller number of sales (smaller population) = increased costs. The publishing industry would find it perfectly logical to carry this over to digital books.

Of course I really have no idea, like I said just a guess.
