Mine's a bit more expensive as my ISP is also my web host, but a google search for "email host" will give lots of options. Domain name *averages* about $9/year (some cheaper, some more). You'll need an email app that can handle pop3 or imap (pop3 - everything downloaded - imap - mail remains on host until deleted). Every OS that I know about has a native email app. Takes a bit of setup, but most email hosts have help files and/or help desks. |

They can certainly be very annoying with asking for a mobile number all the time, but I don't know that any has made the mobile number backup required. Not everybody has a mobile number after all. And if they do have one they might not have a texting plan.
Most social sites I go to are always barking that my profile is only 30% complete. I just dismiss the message and go about my business. |

GoDaddy would be glad to sell you that service, but many Local ISP's offer domain hosting. (your domainame is served on their servers). If you are a bigtime user, many also offer CoLo facilities (Your server Racked at their premises with a big fat Internet pipe available).
Local ISP's like Sonic.net (my ISP) offer great services at affordable prices. Do check their track record. There are lots of here today, gone tomorrow. Always keep a Local copy of anything you want to save. Meltdowns happen , even to the big guys. |

I prefer Outlook.com which is formally Hotmail. So many nice features for free. I've been using them for years. Free Pop, Free IMAPI and Free Aliases.
I also have Gmail but the spam lately has made me to start migrate over to outlook not to mention you can't do much sorting from their web interface. I still use it on Android devices of course. Yahoo I have as well but never use it anymore. It's days of glory are way over. I also own my own domain email but never use it unless I get one of their services that refuse free emails which does occasionally happen. I just set up a forwarder to my free account. I pay $10 a month for my webhosting. |

Look around and see what fits your needs.

I have been with gmail since the beginning. I also have two domains One with Google and one with dyn.com (been with them since they began). Each offers different extra services in addition to domain services. In addition to Gmail I use fastmail.fm for offste family email. Look around. There are a lot of possibilities. |

I am not endorsing GD by any means
![]() My ISP has ZERO (3rd party) ads on their home page and Zero ads on their webmail client (useful when away from home). The MOTD keeps us advised of plans and problems. Unlike my former ISP who lies (by keeping the customer support totally isolated from the rest of the company? )about system status ![]() Some of the MOTD's even get a Grin from me ![]() Quote:

I use mostly yahoo.ca and gmail.com (.ca because yahoo.com stopped allowing free pop3 access to download your email to your own client unless you paid). I also use multiple email addresses, such as one for just my main bills, one for forums, one for places where you need an email but you just know will end up sending you spam that can't be avoided, personal emails, etc. Download them all into Thunderbird or your email client of choice. I personally hate logging into web-based emails and will never do it.
Don't forget too that if you pay any ISP for your home internet, you get between 5-10 free email accounts with it, as well as some free webhosting space. You just have to log in and set them up. I always used my ISP's email before and split up my various emails in it the same way, but when I finally changed ISPs, even if it's only once every 8 years, it's a pain having to change over all your emails. So that's the only reason I'm now using Yahoo and Gmail, and my ISP email is only for notices from the ISP. The only way I can see losing any of the free email services is if you don't use them for more than 90 days (some will auto-delete inactive accounts); and the biggest reason is because you do not have a secure password for the email account and someone has hacked it. Stop using simple words for passwords, don't log in through public wi-fi spots, and you shouldn't have any problems, none of them require a cell phone even if they suggest it. Use a good password manager where you no longer have to remember each password and you can use different random generated passwords everywhere which is the safest. I highly recommend LastPass, I've used it for the last 4-5 years at least. |

The best thing is to make sure you write down and keep the password, ID and answers to questions. Next is to give another email address they can use OR that mobile number. Sometimes though you change phone numbers. (I have.) I used to use a simple program Outlook Express that downloaded the email from gmail, but I don't bother anymore. I just go straight to gmail. I believe that I an depend on Google. (Yes, I do!) |

This. I've had my own domain and email server/service since the early 90's. I also use gmail for my google account. Both work well. There's a couple of others out there somewhere but I rarely use them....yahoo, hotmail....etc. etc..
