Try Textpad, its free for the moment but don't know for how long.

apart from the fact that some don't see the benefit of multi-file editing (as opposed to a cumbersome save-close-open- series of repeated steps), TextPad is not exactly multi tab, but it does allow switching between 'files' rapidly, you just flip through them as in a book, one 'file' a page. Plus you have your 'files' listed in a panel to select one directly.
and for more styling options there's Nocs, which supports Markdown and is dropbox enabled Last edited by At_Libitum; 11-13-2013 at 06:42 AM. |

As explained, no "save-close-open" series is required in Nebulous Notes. It's always only 2 taps to switch between any 2 files. Any saving/closing/opening proceeds automatically, so that, literally, the difference in Nebulous Notes between having "multiple files open", and "a single file open", is zero. If Nebulous Notes added a toolbar row with tabs for the various files... sure, that would reduce the switches from 2 taps to 1 tap. That's the only difference. I'm afraid anyone who believes they can achieve efficient multi-tasking on a handheld device, comparable to that on a traditional computer, may be expecting too much from this type of a device. If only because of the very small screen -- even 10 inches is too tiny a screen for truly efficient multi-tasking, multi-file operations. |

Side by side can display and edit several documents in a split window. It's pretty good to read a pdf or view a video online and take notes quickly on the side. It has a free and a paid version. The text editing is extremely basic though.
There is also an app called Double Note that works with only two text files I think. I haven't tried it. The price seems to be rather erratic but right now it's 0.89 euros. |

Nice to see such hints of the valuable functionality. I'd love to be able to open 2 books side-by-side (or one-above-the-other) like that in Marvin. The handle with which you can at any time readjust the size of the two panes, is great. That's the flexibility users need. Kinda sad to see a Chinese app developer simulating what should be stock iOS functionality; but no, instead of improving iOS functionality, they focused on cosmetics in iOS 7, destroying the former nice look & feel. Displaying multiple apps simultaneously now comes standard in Samsung's flavour of Android, and is also standard for Windows 8.
Like you said, the text editing capabilities in Side by Side are slight, but the greatest deficiency to me is, those are only local text notes. If I could open two Dropbox TXT files side-by-side like that, and edit them, with changes being synced back to Dropbox... that would be useful. It appears, though, that you can only display Dropbox files side-by-side in Side by Side, not edit them. As to Double Note, it looks nice as well, but no Dropbox support means I can't use it. (Neither of the two apps makes it clear, I think, whether at least the text notes are synced across iDevices using iCloud. The trouble is, I also need them to be synced to my Windows machines, etc., for which Dropbox is ideal.) |

Also, WriteRoom is temporarily free. The list of files is displayed on the left side of the screen so you can switch to another file quickly, if it's in the same folder. It's always visible even in portrait mode. That's not the same as tabs but it seems like a nice feature anyway. I haven't really used the app though.
Personally I'm happy with iA Writer and Daedalus Touch, but neither of these has tabs. |

Still, having a slim toolbar row with file tabs as requested by Rizla, might be useful. The Nebulous Notes developer seems communicative, and if I cared about this functionality, I'd shoot him a message to request it. ![]() |

Also looking at Drafts by Agile Tortoise. Though probably not what the OP had in mind, it sounds like a very useful app for taking quick notes and then sending them to other apps. Not free, but the app addict in me wants to buy it, even though I'm not sure I will actually use it.
