Thanks very much for posting the information; the titles look interesting, especially the Lord Charles Beresford title.

I find that the deals on amazon.com are available at least 50% of the time at amazon.ca, but it's much less common for the amazon.co.uk deals to be available in at amazon.ca, probably because the US publisher is often also the Canadian publisher, but less so for the UK publisher. If I know that a deal is available at amazon.com, and the title looks interesting, I usually do a title or author search at amazon.ca to see if there is an equivalent deal. The links are convenient, but I particularly value the information that the title is available.

I'd be interested to read about Lord Charles Beresford (whom I only know in the context of Edward VII's legal problems), but the fact that he's called Lord Beresford on the cover of the book makes me think there are some serious issues with the author, the editor/publisher, or both.

In the text itself he is referred to as Lord Charles Beresford, so that may have been a publisher's blooper on the cover.

It is a bit odd, since he had the courtesy title Lord Charles Beresford during his active life, but he was elevated to the peerage as the first Baron Beresford in 1916, shortly before his death.

Fair enough then. I suspect the publisher isn't aware of the nuances, but it squeaks by on a technicality. I wasn't aware that Lord Charles had been elevated.

New freebie from Stackpole. Be careful on this one, there are two versions one free (linked below) and one for $13.17...

Scalp Dance: Indian Warfare on the High Plains, 1865-1879 by Thomas Goodrich
Quote:
Some of the most savage war in world history was waged on the American Plains from 1865 to 1879. As settlers moved west following the Civil War, they found powerful Indian tribes barring the way. When the U.S. Army intervened, a bloody and prolonged conflict ensued.

Drawing heavily from diaries, letters, and memoirs from American Plains settlers, historian Thomas Goodrich weaves a spellbinding tale of life and death on the prairie, told in the timeless words of the participants themselves. Scalp Dance is a powerful, unforgettable epic that shatters modern myths. Within its pages, the reader will find a truthful account of Indian warfare as it occurred.
Quote:
From the Sand Creek Massacre in 1864 through Custer's Last Stand in 1876 to the final defeat of the mighty Sioux and Cheyenne nations in 1878, Scalp Dance reveals the bloody, bitter clashes between two cultures--one bent on conquest, the other defending its land in the only way it knew how. Military Book Club Main Selection. Doubleday Book Club Selection. 25 b&w illustrations.
