I'm slowly purchasing the books as I find reduced prices via ereaderiq.com as I am tracking GRRM for reduced prices for the books. I've read them via Overdrive. |

Your eBook may never have indexed properly. Do a search on the PW 2013. A yellow line will appear at the top of the screen showing how far the eBook has indexed.
Then do repeated searches. Each time the yellow line will extend further. When it is fully indexed, the line will disappear and your eBook will be fully indexed. If you just leave it alone and it is a large eBook, it will never index properly. |

We've already discussed indexing. Look earlier in the thread.

Lurtz, you're not alone. I have the same exact problem i.e. freezing/restarting PW2 with 4-book Game Of Thrones Bundle bought on AZ. I've tried to open it on two PW2's with the same result. The book's been indexed of course.
I've even tried to use version from the internet (for tests only), and PW2 froze too... I couldn't convert my book from the cloud using Calibre because there is DRM and I don't know how to erase it. The funniest part is that this bundle works like a charm on my old KPW, but I guess I might have not updated version of the book on it. I'm afraid too download the latest version ![]() |

I never noticed a yellow line however. They are just listed under "not yet indexed content". |

![]() It's not good news that the 4-book-bundle by Bantam doesn't work either, of course ![]() Exactly the same for me, my old Paperwhite handles the book correctly. I bought and downloaded it on September 30th, so I guess the version of the book isn't the problem. |

Yellow index line
Quote:
I just realized, I made a mistake. You were discussing the PW 2013 and I had kept remembering my experience on the HDX 2013. Sorry, I missed the proper referenced device. Owning four Kindle devices sometimes confuses my experiences from device to device. Each has its own unique attributes. I had this problem with "The Bible Encyclopedia." It took about 50 search attempts to make the yellow line disappear. Even then, it had indexed every word instead of the proper words. That one did index properly on the PW 2013 with only the key words being indexed since it recognized it as a Dictionary. The HDX 2013 did not recognize it as a Dictionary. I think your best bet on "Game of Thrones" is to buy each of the four eBooks separately. Its possible that combining four eBooks into one large unit is confusing the indexing function on your PW 2013. I'm not sure how that would work out on the HDX 2013. Is it possible to split that combined eBook into its four components with Calibre? Calibre experts will have to answer that question. Last edited by sirmaru; 10-25-2013 at 11:03 AM. |

That should not be a problem. It's "only" around 5200 pages.
Some Delphi Classics are 15-20.000 pages long, and they work fine on the Kindle Paperwhite 1. (After converting the EPUB to AZW3 using Kindlegen; I bought the EPUB versions.) There is either something wrong with this book, or with the KPW2 firmware; even if not fully indexed, you should be able to read it. When touching the screen, the Kindle suspends the indexing process; at least the KPW1 does. Last edited by Katsunami; 10-26-2013 at 02:08 PM. |

I don't know how helpful this is but I have the four book version and it isn't working on my PW2, and this is after letting it sit and index for over 24 hours. I bought it back in 2011 so I am not sure what the differences are in them. Dang, I wonder if it is worth the trouble to contact Amazon to see if they can resolve this. Though I am just a tiny bit annoyed the price is now $15.99, it was $29.99 when I bought it.

Can Calibre be used to split that huge eBook into four eBooks?
Has Calibre been used on that eBook before the freeze problem happened and possibly contributed to the problem? |

Yes. One can use the KindleUnpack plugin to extract an EPUB from the AZW3 file, and then use the EPUBSplit plugin to mark a part of that large book so it will be recreated as a new book in the Calibre library. The original book will not be changed.
