Yes and that code is entirely contained in the sony driver in calibre, which has not had any changes to it in a very long time. Therefore, if sending metadata is suddenly, slow then there is something wrong with your device and/or USB connection.

Thus, my original suggestion, to try resetting the device.

Thanks for your time on my problem.

I fear that I will now need to do a hard reset on the sony and then loose all my settings, read/unread tags and so on....

Bad luck for me
