I am trying to create hierarchical subfolders, but despite following all instructions - including those of the developer - what I get is "World history.Japan" in one line as a subgroup of Genre custom column, and not in hierarchical order as should be. I was directed by the developer to this forum, and one person here found the solution: deleting that file ...

Looking back through this thread's history, I find myself somewhat confused as to why we are even discussing plugins to begin with.
Did you add the name of the genre column in the "Categories with heirarchical items" box under Preferences ==> Interface ==> Look and Feel ==> Tag Browser? This setting is a per-library setting, and won't appear anywhere in the configuration folder. |

![]() I've no idea how to do that on a linux box with hidden folders - not a believer in hiding data from the people who own the data. Over to you BR |

If the config folder does need to be cleared, just rename "/home/<username>/.config/calibre/" from "calibre" to "calibre2". Because backups are better, and it won't hurt. This should come AFTER you check to make sure calibre has been told to set the #genre column as a hierarchical type column, though.
Linux hidden folders are no more hidden than Windows hidden folders. Use CTRL+H to view hidden folders like ".config". Or click Menu ==> View ==> Show Hidden Files in nautilus, and similarly for other file browsers I assume. (Which is actually easier than finding the hidden settings in Windows, which recently became hidden somewhere under system settings in the Control Panel, I believe?) |

eschwartz has it right.
Per Library setting are stored in the Library (DB). eschwartz also has it right (and gave you the solution to view them) Linux does not hide folders anymore than Windows does. Setting the Tag browser to DISPLAY hierarchical items is done with: Preferences: Look and Feel: Tag Browser (tab): enter the Catagories, seperated by commas eg: series, tags |

Up to Win 7 Folder Options are also available at Windows Explorer\Tools. Post Win 7 Folder Options are also available File Explorer\View. Nasty MS moved it from Tools to View. They also moved Organise to View. Now all the controls that specify what you see in File Explorer are in one place - what a stupid idea. It was much better when they were scattered all over the place like a dogs breakfast - boo hiss ![]() BR |

I use Windows Explorer as my secondary file mangler, my primary is xplorer2. I like the new Win 8 File Manager (better name for a start), I've never found ribbons offensive, I hide them until I need them and everything is, by definition, one finger keyboard shortcutable
