elemenoP's problem seems to be a bug that doesn't turn off the LED.

Then turn off the On / Off switch. That would shut down the LED.

•Search terms highlighted in search results
When you search for a word or phrase within a book, the search terms will appear highlighted within the search results. When you tap a result to go to that location in the book, the search terms will appear highlighted on the page.

•Select other dictionaries when looking up a word
When you look up a word in the dictionary, you can choose to look up the word in other dictionaries on your device from within the dictionary definition window.

•View other definitions of a word
When you look up a word that has multiple meanings for the same spelling (homonym), you can navigate through each of the available definitions from within the dictionary definition window.
Those features are in 5.3.8, so those are not 'new' in 5.3.8.1.

This happens every few weeks for me as well. I keep the light turned down quite low pretty much all of the time, so it is impossible to detect until it is in a dark room. Cycling the power switch does nothing, I have to restart.

It will drain the power just as if you were reading all that time. But normally I notice it right away because my Kindle sleeps on the floor next to me in the dark.

I wish I could deactivate the magnetic sensor because I normally walk around with my PW in my ScottE-Vest, which has magnetic closures on some of the pockets. So when I pull it out it is sometimes in 'swipe to unlock mode'.

BTW it might interest people to know that some of us keep wifi on all of the time, by choice. I am normally not concerned with battery drain, and want to do my wikipedia lookups and so forth without having to give permission first, and then trouble myself to turn it off afterwards, which just interrupts my reading. It is absolutely no problem to charge up every few days.

I also noticed the page down yesterday, but didn't think to post it. :-) Looks like it's back up today and there's a 5.3.8.1... I wonder what that changes over 5.3.8 as this changelog is the same as what we got in 5.3.8. the minor/minor point version says to me that they found a bug fairly quickly in 5.3.8 and just fixed that, but nothing mentioned in the changelog.

As for the light not turning off sometimes... they're most definitely aware. I reported it weeks after the Paperwhite was released and had a developer call me directly a few times to discuss it... had him download my device logs... call back... etc... they still haven't fixed it -- must be a tough one.
