Lol! You're right, I think they are pulling an Apple, IMO it is a defect, I saw one at BB.

If there are units that have no blue haze or less blue haze, I would imagine many customers would prefer those devices. It's the inconsistency that annoys me the most.

I totally agree but it's something Amazon has to learn from I guess. Blue LEDs makes sense but I am sure they didn't mean for it to be so noticeable on some units.

Probably LED allowances (not all are equal and the manufacturer allows a certain variance to keep the price reasonable), you can see backlight (and frontlight) variances in many types of lit screens.

E-book is just a really tough audience for lighting solutions. That plain screen, large chunk of white and black text really brings out flaws if there are such.

My second unit has a really bad blue neon border around it. My first one only had a haze here and there I wouldn't call it blue. This one has a really noticeable bright blue border. It really takes away from the beauty of the screen.

I find it interesting that Amazon purposely designed the Fire HDX to have a blue vignette around the screen. I saw the linked article on why this occurs. However, my Nexus 7.2 does not have any vignetting at all. I realize the Fire HDX most likely has a better, higher quality screen, nevertheless the Nexus 7.2 has a very good screen as far as colors go. So if Amazon purposely chose to use a screen that causes vignetting over one that doesn't, it makes me wonder who made that design decision and why. I doubt the colors on the Fire HDX are that much better than the Nexus 7.2, at least not so much better that it was worth causing the vignetting. After all, the Fire HDX was designed for reading as one of its primary functions, and the included Kindle reading app displays this vignetting more than most apps would. It just seems to me like a really stupid design choice on the part of Amazon.

I agree this is one that will make them lose alot of sales. If I wasn't so into the Amazon system I would return it. I think the HD 2013 does not suffer from it but the ppi isn't as good as the HDX but it is much cheaper!

Yep, my thinking is that if the colors are good on the non-vignetting LCDs they should have used them instead. Color accuracy is really not a huge thing on a small 7" tablet. On a computer monitor where the user does a lot of image/video processing it would be a huge deal, and also on a larger tablet. But not so much on a smaller 7" tablet, at least not for most people. As long as the colors look reasonably accurate and vivid, that is enough for probably 99% of the users.

BTW, I still think you should make them replace that 2nd HDX too, especially since it was obviously damaged. You basically paid for a NEW unit then they replaced the NEW unit with a USED and physically damaged one. That is just wrong!

I agree the blue does not need to be there! You do get use to it unless you are on a white page that it's just hard to ignore.

I don't think the unit was used because when I turned it on it had New Smell that went away after a day. I also have not experienced any more warm issues. The battery life is great on this! Reminds me of my other KF's now. I am very happy with my HDX just not the blue border. The scratch is something that is not a big issue for me. As long as it gives me no more problems I am keeping it. The music search may or may have been fixed with the Factory Reset or new firmware that only I seem to have.
