Well I had two PW2s, both went back as faulty, and the more I read on my Paperwhite 1 the more I have no wish or need to order a third PW2.

I've bought a PW today and I chose one I knew was probably a 1; Best Buy didn't make a distinction, and when I asked which it was they didn't know.

Screen quality was more important to me than it being the latest version. After reading about pinholes here and seeing a display model with one, I tested another and simply love it. It's as if the Sony T-1 has been scaled up in quality and function - but I realize that's only because it's my first Kindle. Didn't know what I was missing these past five years.

Look at the logo on the back of it. If it says "Kindle" it's a PW1; if it says "Amazon" it's a PW2.

I finally came to the conclusion that being able to pick different fonts with different weights is more important to me than the extra speed and possible yet to be detected higher contrast of the PW2 - but I have a husband who is willing to sacrifice himself and take the PW2 off my hands... :-)

That's how I feel. I see no need to upgrade to the PW2 yet. Now maybe down the road once we see what firmware updates it gets I may reconsider.

i disagree with OP. my PW2 is a big improvement over the 1st gen model. the light is perfectly distributed and creates a much more realistic paper impression as a result. have not noticed any blurring of text whatsoever.

the flip navigation and bookmark preview features are also fantastic. much closer to the functionality of a real book now.

I think part of the problem is quality control: PWs seem to come in anything from unusable to excellent, your own experience or feeling about upgrading then depends heavily on whether your PW1 was not so good and your PW2 is excellent or whether your PW1 was excellent and your PW2 is not so good.
