That could well be an issue for me and might stop me from picking up an N5 until Google offers at least 32GB. I use my S4 as a transport for a DAC in my office and I'm rather attached to my 64gb mSD card for FLAC files. A secondary device would have to have room for a reasonable amount of music.

On phone pricing, I think people do not subconsciously realize that subsidized phones are MUCH more expensive. Quote:
Larger screen, better battery life, expandable memory, replaceable battery, accessories, multi Windows, floating Windows, pen /stylus, water proof, good camera, superior build quality, rugged build, etc... There are a great many reasons for picking other phones over a Nexus. That is what makes Android such an attractive platform.... Choice and the ability to select a product that meets ones needs and not the other way. |

Good points, but average Joe doesn't care about most of those, and the screen point is irrelevant, at 5" it's large enough for pretty much anything without compromising portability. So for the masses, there's no reason not to pick a Nexus device, the price and timely updates being the key sellers here, but I agree that there are people with special needs that wouldn't be met by a Nexus.

Speaking of the Android phone evolution and the screen size, note that all of the mentioned (~$600 phones + Nexus5) are, roughly, 5"-ers, "phablet" form factor. When I offered Nexus 5 to my daughter, as an upgrade path from her ancient slider Android, she promptly refused it commenting that it is "too big", and probably targeted at men ?! (bigger hands, inside jacket pockets to carry it, etc.). One has to wonder if the Android segment is neglecting sub-4" form factor in the latest lineup. |

Also, I disagree that 5"+ is "for men", in my opinion, more women than men are buying the Note series, at least from my empirical evidence. Last edited by afv011; 10-23-2013 at 01:28 PM. |
