I still like Kobo, and would buy Kobo again(though not the new Auras -I simply can't stand the strangely angled cases), but you've got to wonder when they're going to extract their corporate heads from their collective assets and fix things at Kobo.
I completely agree with you. They have really nice designs (set aside the HD which is ugly imho, I really like the mini, and the Aura I had in my hands was gorgeous), good ideas, they know how to position their products on the market, and they have a good Marketing and PR division who does good PR and manages very good alliances in terms of distribution.

They do not have the greatest Quality Control (it sure isn't six sigma), I guess they have a struggling Dev department (I wonder how many devs they have, but not enough, that's for sure), but the killing thing right now is their abysmal Customer Service.

I think their corporate heads are focusing too much on expansion and have not done their homework, which is building the solid basis to support those future sales.

You know you have a point about the Aura HD it does not have the quilted back that has been the carrot for Kobo, but Its screen size is what makes it for the device. So perhaps a re launch of that line of kobo but with a quilted backing would be a smarter move, and perhaps the Edge to Edge display as well? Either way any of the kobo Devices are good choices.

If I were redesigning the AuraHD case, I would not have the bezel as the part that closes the case. I would have the screen opening and bezel be what is now the back of the case, the part that the electronics fits into. The case would open from the back. It would still be two parts, just the case and a back plate/cover, instead of the case and the bezel/cover.

I may find the time and energy to fire up my old mill and find a 3/8th inch aluminum plate to turn into such a case. I could use the IR transparent plastic guide from one of my AuraHDs Bezels. It might take some careful measuring to be sure everything will lineup properly, and that I have the hole for the screen exactly correct, in the case. If I do it I'll post pictures.

Luck;
Ken

What I would really like would be some Gold Dirilyte to make the case from. I guess I would have to melt down a flatware set and do a casting ( it is a bronze alloy )

Seems to me you could make a few dollars here I wonder how many of us would jump for that option. I wonder if there might be some insulation issues with it as well, being that the plastic does not conduct electricity and there would be very little need for it.
