My experience is that using "Airplane Mode" at least doubles battery life.

Same with former PW1 and current PW2.

I had the same problem with the original Kindle Fire, never with the Galaxy Tabs, iPad or cell phones. The S3 and S4 consume power with GPS and streaming, not with wifi on.

With my Kindle Touch, I'm pretty sure X-Ray worked even with Wi-Fi off - it only pulled the information out of the book anyway, so why would it need wi-fi?
Yes, X-Ray is available with wifi off, I tested it.

I never go to Settings to turn wifi on, if I select a word and press Wikipedia, PW will ask: "Turn off Airplane mode", press it and wifi is on. Same if one selects Kindle store or whatever needs wifi.

I just wish wifi would then turns itself off after I am done.
