I would be very surprised if any professionally run server didn't have an off-site backup. Depending upon how critical they consider the information to be, they could switch over immediately without any data loss (which is what financial institutions do).

I am surprised that the Calgary library's central branch didn't have any way to deal with flooding. It is sitting in a floodplain after all, and the Bow River floods frequently.

(On your earlier post: about 15 years ago, I wrote a story along the lines of the sci-fi stories that you mentioned. I was writing it the Bow River valley not too far from that flooded library.)

Yes, e-books are very convinient. You can just pack it in your mobile devices and read it at anytime. But sometimes, I feel like to pick up some printed books, and keep it in my book shelf.
