Calibre Portable GUI - Page 2

No joy. Tried copying to notepad and installing, no luck. Tried just copying icon directly to the screwed up Calibre portable folder, no luck. Get a sys 32 error. The copy and paste did work on the one Calibre Portable I have running on another drive and replaced the one already there. Thanks for all of your help. I copied the majority of my library to a flash drive for a friend. I think I'll just borrow her drive and copy her's to a new drive and get it over with. Thanks again for everyone's help.

@mzsfjv - by "scratch pad" I meant an empty folder - not notepad - sorry for the jargon

Thanks BetterRed. Tried your suggestion on the drive missing the icon, no luck. Tried it on another drive where I had d/l'ed a new Calibre and it replaced the icon, so your suggestion does work, but not on the drive where the icon is missing. I d/l'ed my library to a drive for a friend of mine last week, so I'll borrow it back and D/L it to one of my drives and get rid of the buggy info on my original drive. I like to solve computer problems, but this is getting way to frustrating. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

When you have calibre open go to Preferences - Toolbar - select The main toolbar. Now add the Choose library icon from the left column to the right column. Move the icon up or down as you see fit then click apply.

Great suggestion, but you surmise that I can get to the tool bar, which I can't. If I could get that far I'd have figured your suggestion out myself. See one of the posts above which clearly explains that I need the Library icon that opens the library. Thanks anyway.

That Icon is called the Launch (OS) Shortcut
And you don't really need it to Launch .

Just double click the file named:calibre-portable(.exe) <by default, the exe part does not show

Unless you get to it from a command prompt:

Directory of L:\Calibre Portable

08/29/2013 13:44 219,136 calibre-portable.exe

If that file is missing: Download and install Calibre_portable again
There you can launch it simply by typing the green part

I guess I was fooled by your words saying you reopened calibre and the icon was gone. I didn't get far enough in the thread where you clarified your erroneous statement.

Stop looking for an icon, to launch calibre portable find the calibre-portable.exe file and open it. This is the file represented by the icon.

If you can't find the file, reinstall.

OK, I've come to the conclusion that the Calibre Portable.exe is gone and it's time to move along. I've d/l'ed a new Calibre. Does anyone know how to transfer my library to the new Calibre? I've found a work around by accessing my original library in the damaged Calibre from the new Calibre, but this is a pain and requires me to keep a useless Calibre on a drive, along with the new one. It would be so much easier if I could just transfer the whole library over permanently and delete the damaged calibre. Thanks everyone for your help.

When You install calibre portable point it to your calibre folder it might ask you already have a calibre install do you want to update press yes. Then it will be good to go no need to have multiple install etc.

I would suggest uninstalling, re-downloading and re-installing calibre just to make sure that no corrupted files are kept from the old install. Probably overkill, but then you can be certain you started from a known good state.

Calibre Portable ALWAYS starts with the (Path) internal Calibre Library

If Calibre Portable is GONE, but the folder is still there, Just install There (there being the folder that CONTAINS the 'Calibre Portable' folder ) Again
