He should have done the review in a dark room. The big question is if the light has been improved. Don't these people read the internet? Missed opportunity.

Most of the tech blog reviewers wouldn't know much about an eInk reader if it crawled up their backside and called them Momma! Just because they have a tech blog they act like they can review anything. Meh!!!! I prefer to wait for hardcore eInk users to post their thoughts.

Lisa Gade with Mobile Tech Review has some decent reviews on phones, e-readers, tablets and other small toys. I have read her for several years.
She also put her videos on YouTube. This was her PW1 review last year: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/erea...Paperwhite.htm Last edited by Ocicat; 09-19-2013 at 04:41 PM. |

Here's another quick comparison video. Again, not in English (German this time) but you can somehow see the subtle differences. PW 1 is on the left, PW 2 on the right.

PW 2013 will be far better than PW 2012 BECAUSE ITS 2013 !!
In the same way I'll be buying KFHD 2013 when it is offered at the Amazon site. In the same way I'll be buying a new driverless car when its available in my State. I always buy the latest and the greatest. Finally, its just TWELVE days for delivery of my PW 2013. All other Amazon products get delivered PRIOR to the estimated delivery date. I expect mine the end of next week. |

I always wonder what that means.
I've had a Touch, and now a PW1, and both are just fine with regard to touch accuracy and reaction speed. The only advantage for the PW1 is that the screen is capacitive, which makes the Kindle thinner. |

As you, I don't really know what that translates to in practical terms - seems pretty precise to me as it is. And even that German video doesn't seem to point to much difference in screens. Sure, it's brighter at brighter settings. But I doubt many people read at the brightest setting. The Italian reviewer claimed that the light was spread more evenly - but then showed the same splotches of light on the bottom as for the first gen. And the uneven light was obvious in the German video as well. So, apparently, the biggest complain hasn't been fixed... |

In the Italian video, the biggest difference I saw was that on the old PW, to me, the background looked pink and green, while on the new one, it looked uniformly white/beige.
Being that I am plagued with great color vision and, last year, settled on three PW1s (one for me, two as presents) that were the least bad ones of all the ones I received, this video gets me excited. And, no need to argue with me that there were no color blotches in the video: some of us will see them, some of us will not. Last edited by xendula; 09-20-2013 at 10:57 PM. |

The processor is 25% faster according to the video yet battery life is similar to the PW1, recharge time is 4 hours. There's 19% more sensors on the touch grid compared to the old PW so tapping is more accurate. Illumination is improved/more even, screen is whiter and contrast is better (black is "more black"). Weight is 206 grams.
Software: with a book open, tapping on the bookmark icon brings up a a smaller window with a "preview" of the bookmarked page(s). It's possible to flip pages while in preview mode. Dictionary lookup brings on simultaneously the correspondent Wikipedia entry in a separate tab. It's also possible to translate single words to another language, all the translated words are automatically saved to a separate volume which can be consulted at any time, handy for learning foreign words/languages.
