1 - Firewall? does your Mac OSX allow incoming connections for Calibre?
2 - Little Snitch installed?

No firewall that I am aware of. Certainly no third-party software. Not sure how to check whether incoming connections are allowed.

Yes, but I turned it off and tried connecting again. Still no luck.

I meant the built in firewall of OSX.

It's somewhere in System Preferences.
(I am currently in 10.6.8 not on 10.8.5; the placement of the Firewall setting in the System Preferences might have been changed.)

On my Mac mini snow leopard the firewall is on and there is a setting for Calibre = allow incoming connections.

Are you supplying user name (and password)?

My OPDS server runs on Mountain Lion, no issues logging in from Marvin.

Yes, if it didn't show anything in Safari, it seems so. Still, let's try and figure it out. I'm investigating what it could be.

Also to Calibre OPDS is not the same as opds, and Apple's autocorrect capitalizes that automatically.

thanks artbatista--looks like my iphone5 is not connecting to my home wi-fi and has been using the phones cellular data, so this may be the problem. i'm working on this issue .

finally able to connect my iphone5 with calibre opds server!! turns out it was because phone was not connected to my home wi-fi and was using cellular data. Hope this helps others as well. love this forum.

I'm pretty sure I have added a trailing slash after ~/opds/ as well. It works.

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work. I think my Internet just sucks. I will try at work tomorrow, maybe there's a difference.

I realize this thread is pretty cold, but hopefully someone can still help. I'm running Mac Sierra and I have Marvin 3.0. Love it. Sadly, I have to keep my firewall on because of my employers requirements, and it seems to be interfering with my OPDS server. I've checked under system preferences that Calibre should be set to allow incoming connections, but that still doesn't help. I've already tried removing calibre from the allowed incoming connections list and re-adding. That didn't help. but It works perfectly if the firewall is completely off.
Any ideas?

A workaround is to use the cloud service -- assuming that is allowed. You upload to the selected one and then pull to Marvin.
