This is partly due to the Kobo firmware being more stable than it was 6-12 months ago (at least for me), partly due to the marvels created by the friendly community hackers and the hi-res, front-lit screens with huge choice of font-sizes, faces and weights. The Kobo/calibre interface is also excellent and under constant improvement.

I also can't remember the last time I needed the trusty paperclip This is not to say that some people don't still find their Kobo 'quirkier' than their previous favourite reader but it all really depends on what features you find indispensible. I probably wouldn't be quite so happy if my priorities were PDF, thousands of books on the reader and a permanent Wi-fi connection.
That was a big plus for the Kobo Touch. We only had to create a font directory and load them into it. Though not all fonts worked correctly, but most of the ones I tried did.

I don't regret a thing. All of it was money well spent and I have probably bought 10 times that amount in books.

Me too, my Sony PRS 600 was the most expensive ereader I ever bought at £250. A year later I bought the 650 for £175 and the Kindle Keyboard for £89. Since then I have never paid more than the current £109 of the Paperwhite for a reader.

My first e-reader was a PRS-500. Spent around $300 on it, and never regretted it. Rather, I was damn proud about it. Everywhere I went with it, people asked me if they could have a look at it. It made me feel rather special.
