I spent most of the summer in Italy and Croatia - and getting the WSJ and Financial Times in the morning was just priceless. Actually the availability of 3g is the only reason I don't switch to an Aura HD.

I've bought every Kindle since my first, the Kindle Keyboard, and each time I've wanted the 3G version but didn't get it. I'm also retired and don't really need 3G most of the time, and money is tight.
I also got the Paperwhite without 3G. But it kept gnawing at me. I finally broke down and bought a second Paperwhite with 3G. I also got a cover for it so I can feel comfortable taking it with me the occasional times I'm away from home. The truth is that the 3G just isn't needed in my case. At the same time I feel so good about having it for the few times I do need it that I can't imagine not having it now. I've already decided I'm saving for the new Paperwhite with 3G. It'll take a couple of months. I probably won't be able to get it when it first comes out, although I may. I definitely want 2 Kindles for myself and I want both of them to have 3G. I'll use my old Wifi Paperwhite the way I use my Basic Kindle now, for lending to friends and family. I guess my point is that if you really do have a choice and can manage to get either one, sometimes it's worthwhile getting what you want even if you don't really need it. Barry |

I might actually consider doing the same. Especially as my reader gets always a rough treatment in travel... |

Automatic delivery of subscriptions works for only one device... sure, you can switch, but that sounds like a pain... but if you don't have subscriptions, it could work... |

On the rare occasions I'm away from WiFi, I tether to my iPhone5. Saves money and a tiny bit of weight on my KPW.

I tether all the time to my Galaxy. I had been thinking of getting the 3G for my first PW because of the convenience of it, but tethering is so easy with the Galaxy that I ended up getting the wifi only PW and do not regret it.

I tether with my iphone, it works perfectly. If you have a smartphone with a decent sized data package (mine is 1G) and only need 3G occasionally then thats the best option

I have used the 3G on my PW1 maybe twice in the past year. It's nice to know I have it, but also only preordered the Wifi only PW2. When you don't have 3G, you probably make sure you have a large enough TBR list on your Kindle before leaving the house.
I may keep my PW1 for when I need 3G, or maybe not.... |
