Yes, this.

If I were you, I would look into a library with a large ebook program that offers an out-of-state card, such as Philadelphia Free Library. You have to pay for the card but it might be well worth it to you. Do a search on here to find out what your choices are. Just be prepared for long hold times. My library has tons of Magic Tree House books in ebook format, for example. Also tons of Richard Riordan books.

Good luck,

YEah, probably going to have to look at this path.

Amazon does seem to have a lot of free kids kindle books, although the list is interspersed with expensive ones as well.

Thanks for this... but when I go in to Kindle->Ebooks->Children->9-12yrs->sort by price there is only around 20 or so. Seems to be a lot more free books for adults then kinds.

Amazon has bizarre searches these days.

The list seems to be sorted by the lowest available price but displays some random other price on the classics at least.

If you click on a book that says see all. at the bottom

Free e-books for a young boy that shouldn't be too hard to read:

Conan books: The whole list is here:

Robert E. Howard Conan stories

Two very good short stories to start him on are:

The Tower of the Elephant

Red Nails

Moonfleet by John Meade Falkner. Great story about smugglers. Kinda old and written in a faux 18th Century style, but I don't think it's that hard to read:

Moonfleet

Edgar Rice Burroghs stuff:

John Carter Warlord of Mars (7 books in 1)

The Land that Time Forgot (Trilogy)

Complete Sherlock Holmes

As I think of more, I'll post them.

I agree both MR and Feedbooks have some good books to offer. A good many of those at Feedbooks are both PD and free. And of course those right here at MR are always PD and free of charge.

I don't know about that, I loved 'em as a kid. I read Treasure Island, Jules Verne books, old 1920 and 30s boys series books my father owned, must have read Swiss Family Robinson dozens of times. Penrod was another I liked that is now public domain.

Summers, I read a bunch of stories about the Greek gods, including the Odyssey, because my grandmother has this whole set of Greek mythology.

And then there was stuff like Kjelgaard's "Big Red", which I think can be found here on MR, or at least it was available.

Also, just because a library doesn't have kids ebooks, is no reason to count it out, paper books are fine for reading.
