And a tablet isn't a computer?

I assume that the Tablet News article is referring to this device, which was already shown at CES in January and they just got some of the facts wrong.

Depends what sort of tablet it is. An iPad is a computer; an Aspirin isn't.

I use a laptop instead of a desktop, but that doesn't mean it should be labeled a desktop.

I love Panasonic gear- my tv, pvr and blu ray player are all from Panny.
I've no interest in a tablet, but I wish Panasonic would produce an e-ink ereader; I'd be seriously interested.

I doubt your laptop has a 20" screen. Anything that big is best classified as a desktop because of size, lack of portability, awkwardness of holding, etc. But apparently you know EVERYTHING, so call it what you damn well please.

This is an All in One desk top computer. AIO have been made for years. The difference this go round is that some companies- Sony, Panasonic, Lenovo- Have added batteries to the mix so that they can be used "off-leash" for a bit of time. usually 2-3 hours.

The idea being that its mostly used tetherd but then you can unplug it and move it to the kitchen table for a bit to play interactive family games with it laid flat or to have the kids do some homework or even socializing with on-line friends sitting at the table instead of hidden in their room while the parents are making dinner.

You never know, there are lappies with 20" screens, like the HP Pavilion HDX9000 or the Acer Aspire 9800.

Not sure I would ever buy such a large tablet. But I would like to see one in a store.

According to techterms.com:
Quote:
Unlike laptops and other portable devices, desktop computers cannot be powered from an internal battery and therefore must remain connected to a wall outlet.
As for tablets:
Quote:
A tablet, or tablet PC, is a portable computer that uses a touchscreen as its primary input device.
You want to reclassify devices based on size, that is your choice.
At 5.3 lbs it weights less than some textbooks, so it is portable.
As for awkwardness of holding, I haven't held one, have you?

I've bought a Sony Vaio tap 20 a while ago and really couldn't be happier. It's basically a portable all-in-one computer and Windows 8 really makes sense with this sort of device. Whatever you want to call it, it has basically replaced our previous desktop computer. The average user probably doesn't need anything else as a home computer any more (unless e.g. you need major graphics power or have some specific requirements).
It's silent, unobtrusive and elegant in the living room and can easily be moved around. When we went on vacation I simply dropped it into a suitcase and took it along to be used for web-surfing and entertainment in our vacation house.
