I would like to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. If I "Unsubscribe" from Special Offers on my Kindle, and then sell it to someone else, will it remain a non-Special Offer Kindle or will it revert to Special Offers? (not that I plan on selling any of my pets)

It sure sounds that way to me. Why ask questions if you're not going to believe what people tell you? This is the second time in the last few days that you've decided not to believe what experienced Kindle users have told you (the first being that the clock is reset to a default value on a reboot).

Actually, custom covers were a feature of the original Kindle (along with other now-defunct features, such as SD cards, keyboards, page turning buttons, TTS, audiobooks, .... )
