The color depth matters. Doesn't handle others well. Perhaps as you have discovered.

Ah, then it's *NOT* an 8-bit PNG .

It's *very* finicky, and will in fact choke on 16c files, so it has to be 8bit & 256c.

(With ImageMagick, -define png:bit-depth=8 helps when dithering and/or remapping down to 16 colors)

on the subject of weird firmware -
what about the bnep0 interface? (Ethernet over Bluetooth)
at least on the Kpw-v.5.3.4 firmare.
