The back of the Aura looks much more premium than the Aura HD.

Please Kobo, update the design of the Aura HD to make it more in line with the new Aura and tablets design.
Just by replacing the existing back cover with the design of the Aura would give the Aura HD a much more premium appearance.

Eek. They are changing the name "shelves" to "collections"???? and adding "kobo collections"??? Come on, it's not a kindle, shelves is so much better a term than collections.

ok, small rant over.

Oh, ugh. I'll keep my Kobo Glo the way it is, with 2.6.1.

I've never looked at skins. When I do a search at ebay I mostly find leather wallet type which I don't want.

Ahh, but when I search at Google I do see lots. Interesting. I could probably find one or two that I wouldn't mind.

Any tips on skins? How long do you think before they'll be out for a brand new device?

I think the term shelves is kind of silly actually. WHAT shelves? Shelves are a physical construction and don't even exist on a reader, other than in a virtual capacity. Makes more sense logically to call a spade a spade. The "shelf" on a reader device is nothing more than a specific collection of titles. So I see nothing wrong with calling it exactly that.

But then I also hate page curl animations and the fake wood bookshelves look of some reader apps. Each to their own.

I agree that "collection" makes more sense in the digital world. But. liked "Shelf". It was different to everyone else.

I always like seeing these. Then I turn them off so they don't get in the way.

oh dear, then why are we calling these virtual things "books"? everyone knows if it isn't a physical construction of pages bound together, it is NOT a book

ah well aren't we all different

Point taken. Though many call them ebooks. And technically, they are html files that are bound together as a zip file. So they aren't quite as separate as all that from the paper book process, since there is a "binding", LOL!

But then there are audio books, and I just can't think of those as books, since I can only listen to them and not read them. Yet, they also are a way of conveying the author's words. So I suppose virtual shelves are a legit way to think of things.

Anyway, it isn't just Kindle that has collections, Sony has them too. Maybe I am just more comfortable with the word because of that and also having a physical book, as well as other collections.

It may be that Kobo is just trying to eliminate confusion for people coming over from Amazon or Sony devices. Which makes sense to me, as they are now the only company offering a size range in their readers, as well as the best front lighting. I'm sure some folks who have had Sony readers have bought Kobos and probably some who have had Kindles have been tempted by the larger Aura HD.

I know, that's what bugs me so much. The fact that they feel they have to change to fit in with the crowd, when their way is also legimate, AND (imo) not confusing at all, even for people coming from another device. I knew about collections, but the second I heard shelves were being implemented, I knew what they were talking about. Assuming people can't understand what shelves are for, just because their previous device called them collections....well, that's pretty insulting, in my book.

oh and if they are assuming that the people who can't handle that naming difference when thinking about buying a kobo, will be able to handle all the other differences from the other devices, well, that's a bit deluded!!

I guess it's partly that I like a bit of individuality in a company, when it doesn't mean that a) they are using it to brand their product to an insane level (ie calling them kobocubbies instead of shelves....) or b) that the difference is just a matter of stubbornness and that their "individuality" is just a product design that doesn't work nearly as well as the alternative...(thinking of things like refusing to adapt to global standards...not something as mundane as naming a part of a product )

Ah well, something like that gets under my skin for awhile, then 6 months later I forget that kobo even ever called them shelves. My memory is just that sh***y.

Don't give them ideas about the kobocubbies, LOL! I guess for me, I don't care how they differentiate themselves with language (or not), in the long run, all I really care about is that they make it really pleasant to read books.

I'd love Kobo like crazy if they made their annotating more efficient like my Sony T1, for instance. Meanwhile, I keep a Kobo to read on and a Sony to proofread on. Sony for books with images because of pinch/zoom as well as landscape mode.

I do think Kobo is differentiating themselves, lots of choices on reader size, more font choices, etc. But I'd like to see more.

Oh well, one thing we know for sure with Kobo, change is always just a firmware update away, whether we like it or not!
