I get about 3-4 weeks battery life with all content on the Sandisk SD card. Full shutdown every night.

I bought a memory stick on sale since it seemed like a good idea to have a card for both slots. I noticed that reading RTF files off of the card drained it over a weekend's reading. I'm doing two things, since Baen is converting to lrf, I'm re-downloading some in that format. Also this week, I'll load up the internal memory and pull the card.

I'll use the normal standby feature and I'll try to keep track of pages/bar.

Hmm I don't use any cards either. and only get 9 days maximum. But I do use it for 3-6 hours a day (long and variable commute).

I would just like the functionaility of the suspend switch to be an option. And I can't shake the impression that this wouldn't be particularly difficult for sony to achieve.

I like the way that Bookeen have implemented this on the CyBook Gen3. On that machine you have a user-configurable period of inactivity after which the machine automatically does a full shutdown. I have this set to an hour, which means that the machine stays instantly available during any breaks in a reading session, but shuts down, to preserve the battery life, once I've genuinely finished reading.

My battery used to last 2 to 3 weeks using standby mode only. It seems something went wrong after leaving a Panasonic SD card in. I left it unattended for 2 weeks in the reader and after that the battery seemed to be exhausted. I took away the SD card, charged it completely with my USB cable and the charge lasted for only 1 day!!
Has anyone here experienced the same?

I agree. One thing I've noticed is that the amount of time it takes to come back from a shutdown is proportional to the number of books you have on it. So, if you have large numbers of books, it'll take much longer. Also, I have the PSP usb charger so I leave it connected power-wise at work during the day.

After having the issues I described earlier, I managed to charge my reader with a PSP charger. It seems my unit is back to normal in terms of battery duration.
So, after thinking about what was wrong and reading this thread, I guess the answer is in RTF ebooks. The day I recharged my unit I put an RTF file to read and it seems that depleted the battery in 1 day.
Could that be the answer?

I have a 505 and only charge it through the USB port of my laptop. I recently got a message "no battery" on restarting it. The evening before when I turned it off the indicator showed half charge. I did a reset and am now recharging it via USB. I have a three questions: 1 what does the message "no battery" mean? I understand "low battery" but not "no battery. 2. Apart from charging faster with a mains charger, is there any difference between charging with charger and via USB? 3. Can I use my Motorola phone charger? It has a micro USB connector and output of 5.0V 550 mA. I asked Sony and they just said they could not recommend anything other than Sony products. Fair enough, but I'm tired of buying chargers for everything.

The benefits of using a PSP-style charger are:

- It charges a lot faster than it does via USB.
- You can read while you're charging.
