We just received word from them that the issues described here should be resolved soon:
"A lot of technology changes happening on the site right now. Some authors are dropping off temporarily. They'll be back up soon." Last edited by Alexander Turcic; 08-20-2013 at 12:42 PM. |

Is my account the only account here with problems? Has anyone checked their accounts?
I'm beginning to wonder if their definition of soon and mine is the same. I cannot download or find my books from: Assorted indie authors Kensington MacMillan is hit or miss Penguin and it's affiliates Simon and Schuster and it's affiliates Smashwords is hit or miss So far 66 books are showing in my account, I can download 7 of them. When I follow the links for the books that are showing, most give me this message: "Internal server error ocurred. Please contact the administrator" I'm hoping it will improve, but when? |

Do you not have copies of the books that you've bought?

I do have copies, but if I have a hard drive failure or let's say a house fire even. It would be nice to be able to download the books again.
I travel and I don't carry my library with me always. I sometimes go to my book accounts and download the book to the device I'm reading on at the time. For me it's a matter of convenience and the principle that I have paid for the books and cannot access them. |

Very few bookstores guarantee to make prior purchases available indefinitely. I entirely agree that being able to re-download prior purchases is a convenience, but it's not one which should be relied upon.
Make sure you have good backups. Your comment about losing your books in the event of a hard drive failure is a little alarming; I'd suggest having copies in at least three places, one of which is off-site. |
